Friends of new and old! I have an incredible opportunity to help a pregnant mare in need of a soft landing and new pasture by Sept 24. Welp I promised myself that it would be like a 5min convo and we clock in at close to 11 smh but it’s REALLY important and I guess I needed to decompress. I have already spoken with show staff who promised to tell the appropriate higher ups. Will they take the feedback and care? Anybody’s guess, wouldn’t hold my breath… I have submitted a formal written complaint as well online to USEF who is responsible for the Steward at the show not the actual show staff. Like I said- the situation was completely mishandled from the beginning when she spoke to the underage child and essentially told her that she was starving her horse and abusing it, because of what went on in the social media this last week regarding an emaciated horse that was showing. TBH looks like half the horses at the riding school in São Paulo I was at Hípica Manege Alphaville whoops time I spilled that teacup I guess too. Where they made old 30yo school horses go round for rich people’s kids and rode her into her grave. A body score of 1. THAT’s emaciated and It’s not ok in any country or context to ride a horse without the muscle, condition, coordination, and vestibular/neural/cognitive soundness to comfortably do so. A body score of 1-2 is not a riding horse. There are horses with 4-5 body scores that are just as unsuitable for ridden work being ridden.

The steward, if she had concerns, needed to follow protocol and telling a 16yo she is starving and abusing her horse (which she was not and the horse was not close to emaciated… for the record) is not it, USEF. Just another reason you are losing following. I think it’s actually a good thing- such a dumpster fire sh*tshow at literally every show and most every case is mishandled or too little too late. Now I think we are going to push the “obese horse” as the image of a “healthy horse” and no one is going to be allowed to show if it doesn’t look like a fcking whale.

Also- the main rant: telling me we were abusing the horses by braiding them in the shade AND SENDING US IN THE SUN AT 1:30PM IN 100 DEGREES a quarter mile back to the trailers was also NOT the right play. She was concerned that the shade next to ring, next to the tents with fans, was “too hot for them” and apparently she needs new glasses because the shade was not “in the sun” as she alleged. What was in the ever loving sun was where she sent us to, hell’s front yard. Not cool, USEF, not cool. And quite frankly quite unacceptable and a complete admission of incompetence. We need to seriously think and establish what body condition is allowed to show, how to determine that, and who makes that call before we start telling underage CHILDREN that they are abusing their horses and not feeding them. Cannot believe this !!

Still reliving a fantastic recognition of class, quality, and superior genetics by Horse Sport MD at the Bred to Event competition held at Loch Moy Farm. Homebred SES Táchira, PREMIUM Holsteiner filly by Fabregas (Florencio I x DeNiro) out of SES Coro hallmark mare (Into Mischief x African Legacy x Johannesburg) best in class clenched the yearling division WIN! She was a peach for her first braids forelock to tail and Zenya Photography captured these stunning shots. Not bad for a last minute entry I’d say! This stunning filly is only getting started, scoop her up in the 5s while you can.
