National Supply Chain Day is a reminder that manufacturing is built on more than finished products. It’s built on generations of people, processes, and progress.

What once depended on rail lines, manual coordination, and local production networks has grown into a highly connected, fast‑paced supply chain system. At Buck, we’re proud to be part of that continued evolution and strengthen supply chains here in the U.S.. From raw metal to finished castings, our team works every day to reduce risk, shorten lead times, and improve supply chain efficiency for our customers.

Today, we recognize not only the importance of strong supply chains, but also the people whose effort and expertise keep them working.

Congratulations to Smith Middle School students! They earned the Innovator Award in the What’s So Cool About Manufacturing Video Contest featuring Buck Company. Well done team!!!

A group of Smith Middle School students proudly represented manufacturing in Lancaster County through MANTEC’s video contest. The students toured The Buck Company and created a video highlighting the company’s work and technology.

At the awards night, Smith earned the Innovator Award, recognizing the team for showcasing how new technology supports the manufacturer’s operations. Way to go, team!

This week, we had the opportunity to join Solanco High School for its Career Exploration Day.

Bringing together students in grades 9-12, the event gave students a chance to learn about different industries and career paths directly from professionals. Sarah Trimble and Brigid Kearn represented Buck and talked with students about manufacturing careers - covering entry-level opportunities, advancement through training and education, and what daily work in the industry looks like.

We’re always proud to take part in events like this that help students explore future careers and gain a better understanding of the opportunities in manufacturing.

Last week, we brought metalcasting from the classroom to the foundry floor.

During Solanco High School’s Technology Education class's tour of our 220,000-sq-ft facility, we shared a behind-the-scenes look at how castings move from concept to production. From advanced equipment to carefully optimized workflows, the tour helped connect their classroom experiences with real-world manufacturing.

Experiences like this help students see how the concepts they learn in school translate directly into careers in engineering, metallurgy, and manufacturing.

Welcoming students into our facility is one of the many ways we’re proud to support the next generation and share what a future in our industry can look like.

Cast your Vote!

We’re excited to cheer on the Solanco School District in this year’s What’s So Cool About Manufacturing? contest - a student-led program that brings manufacturing careers to life through creative video storytelling.

This year, Smith Middle School students interviewed Buck team members Glenn Muzzy and Nick McCabe for their video, spotlighting their experiences in engineering and manufacturing.

Voting takes place March 24-26, and every vote helps Smith Middle School’s video in the running for the Viewers’ Choice Award and a chance to continue on to the State Championship!

Introducing students to the world of metalcasting.

This week, Buck had the opportunity to partner with the Foundry Education Foundation (FEF) to visit Solanco High School and share the possibilities within the metalcasting industry. During the session, students participated in a hands-on demonstration using molten tin and the green sand molding process, giving them a close-up look at how cast metal components are made.

Beyond the demonstration, students also learned about the many career opportunities within metalcasting - from engineering and metallurgy to manufacturing leadership - as well as scholarship opportunities available through FEF.

We’re proud to continue working alongside the Foundry Education Foundation to introduce students to meaningful career pathways and help support the next generation of talent in our industry.

This week, Buck got to see future engineers in action.

Our engineers had the opportunity to spend time with students across the Solanco School District, sharing insight into what manufacturing careers can look like in practice.

First, our team visited the Technology Education class at Solanco High School to demonstrate how molds are created and how molten metal can be poured using the class’s on-site furnace. Students got a firsthand look at the early stages of the casting process and the expertise behind each step.

Later in the week, Buck engineers also visited Swift Middle School to serve as consultants for the students’ Car Roll Cage Project. Students were challenged to design a structure that could protect an egg rolling down a ramp and crashing into a wall, and our engineers got to offer guidance on design, durability, and technical problem-solving.

Thank you to the teachers and schools who make these learning opportunities possible. We’re proud to support local students as they explore STEM and the many paths within manufacturing.

Investing in the next generation starts with honest conversations about careers in manufacturing.

Last week, our engineers at Buck got to take part in that. Sarah Bury, Mattie Perkins, and Sarah Trimble joined students at Solanco High School for the Junior Achievement REAL Life Program, a financial literacy and career-readiness forum.

As they talked with students about career choices, budgeting, and life after graduation, our team shared what a future in manufacturing - and at a foundry like Buck - can look like.

Whether students’ interests lead them to engineering, skilled trades, or a completely different field, we’re proud to help them better understand the opportunities in manufacturing and explore the path that fits them best.
