A quality veneer plaster finish doesn’t end when the final trowel leaves the wall — the drying and curing process is just as important as the application itself. Photos can show you the stages of drying from blue board to raw uncured veneer to fully cured ready for primer.
On our veneer plaster installations, every stage matters.
We begin with properly installed blueboard, reinforced joints and transitions, followed by the correct preparation for the specific wall system. From there, Gold Bond Uni-Kal veneer plaster is hand applied, worked, tightened and finished to create the smooth, durable surface our clients expect.
Once the finish is complete, the plaster must be allowed to cure and dry naturally under controlled conditions. Consistent temperature, proper ventilation and avoiding excessive direct heat all play a part in allowing moisture to leave the plaster evenly.
Uni-Kal is also a lime-containing veneer plaster, meaning the finished surface can remain alkaline as it cures. Before painting, the plaster should be completely dry and, where required, the surface pH can be checked to confirm compatibility with the specified primer. The correct alkali-resistant primer should then be used before finish paint is applied.
Rushing this stage can compromise an otherwise perfect plaster installation.
From the board, to the reinforcement, to the plaster, to the drying process — every step is part of the system.
It’s not just plastering.
It’s understanding the materials, how they react, how they cure and how to build a finish designed to last.
The Patriot Way.
