If has taught us one thing since its inception in 1970, it is that small steps add up to larger accomplishments.

For Synovos, one of the small steps we have taken involves the office coffee drinkers. Over the past year, the Radnor, PA corporate office has participated in the Keurig K-Cycle® Recycling Program. The coffee maker developed the program as part of its sustainability goals, taking aim at reducing waste through more effective packaging and recycling.

As a result, 100% of the K-Cup® pods used are recycled, preventing them from becoming landfill waste. Three quarters of each pod is converted to compost, while the final 25% is converted to recycled products.

To date, Synovos’ contribution is small but growing, as employees return to the office following the pandemic:

o Nearly 3000 K-Cup® pods have been diverted from a landfill
o Nearly 100 pounds of material has been converted to compost
o Nearly 30 pounds of material has been converted to recycled products

As they return, employees are also encouraged to bring their K-Cup® pods from home to be recycled as well.

It’s one small step.

We close off our focus on Earth Week today, celebrating the theme of , investing in the planet, and focussing on the last of our four Goals – Doing Business Responsibly.

When the war in Ukraine started in February, we all wanted to take action to support the people of Ukraine.

Employees at Synovos contributed to assist a colleague’s family directly impacted by the war. Meanwhile, our colleagues across the globe offered support through the Red Cross Ukraine crisis appeal. We also reassured our people, customers, suppliers, and investors that we don’t have operations in Russia, none of our suppliers are based in either Russia or Ukraine and we don’t transport products through either country.

Additionally, we assured our stakeholders that we had rigorous processes and checks in place to enable our sales to comply with all relevant international regulations and sanctions. This was the responsible thing to do and what our doing business responsibly is all about.

But we wanted to do more, and that’s when Nadiia Anoumou, a Supplier Manager based in RS Components France, had an idea.

Earlier today we posted about how our employees contribute to their communities as part of our ESG pillar – Empowering Our People. As part of that initiative all employees are given two volunteer days per year for charity work within their community.

But not all contributions are limited to the work week. Some, like this small group of employees from the New York City region, volunteer on the occasional weekend, too.

This group recently participated in a clean-up event along the Bronx River Parkway in White Plains, NY. The event, organized by the Westchester Parks Foundation, was their opportunity to support the community in the spirit of .

The group of Synovos employees and their families worked alongside 40 other volunteers for two hours covering more than a mile of trail. In all, the entire group collected more than a thousand pounds of trash.

How good would it feel to take some time away from work to help people in your community?

At Electrocomponents plc, one of our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) pillars is Empowering Our People. One way we accomplish that is by providing all colleagues two volunteer days per year for charity work of their choosing in their community.

Their stories are inspiring.

Meet Bill Garcha, Senior Inventory Controller in our Global Supply Chain. Bill lives in Kettering, United Kingdom, where he and his wife Bal, work tirelessly supporting the Midland Langar Seva Society (MLSS). The charity was established in 2013 to assist those in need, providing hot food and drinks to those living on the street, in schools and safe houses, and those living on the poverty line.

Bill said: “While most of my volunteering is done during evenings or weekends, having our two RS volunteering days gives me greater flexibility without compromise, to do my charity work. Volunteering days empower us all to be a force for good in our communities.”

“While using my volunteering days helps me to support MLSS Kettering directly, I also have more time to network and source funding to support those who are less fortunate than me.”
