Job Description
Job Title: Purchasing & Project Coordinator – Metal Fabrication
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Reports To: Operation Manager/Plant Manager
Company Overview
Batey and Sanders, Inc. is a metal fabrication company specializing in ALDOT-compliant grates and frames, bridge parts, pipe end treatments, and custom fabrication work including trash racks and handrails. Our company operates in two sides — the Inc. side, which manages customer relationships and orders, and the Fab side, which handles production. This role sits on the Inc. side and serves as the critical link between customer orders and the fabrication process.
Position Summary
We are seeking an organized, detail-oriented professional to manage the full order-to-delivery process for our fabrication projects. This role converts customer orders into work orders for the shop, manages all material purchasing and vendor relationships, ensures compliance documentation for ALDOT projects, and works closely with the management team on a variety of business operations. This is a highly cross-functional role requiring strong communication skills, technical CAD drawing ability, and comfort managing multiple vendors and deadlines simultaneously.
Key Responsibilities
Order & Production Coordination
● Process customer orders received by the Inc. side and generate corresponding work orders for the Fab shop
● Process packing slips for billing after completion.
● Coordinate the flow of finished products back to BSINC for customer pickup and/or delivery.
● Serve as liaison between customers, management, and the fabrication team throughout the life of a project
Purchasing & Inventory
● Source and purchase all raw materials and supplies needed for fabrication projects
● Conduct monthly inventory counts and maintain accurate inventory records between multiple sites
● Manage all receiving paperwork for incoming vendor shipments
Vendor & Subcontractor Management
● Maintain and grow relationships with material and service vendors
● Coordinate outsourced services such as galvanizing and machining, including scheduling and follow-up
Drafting & Technical Support
● Create in-house shop drawings for custom fabrication work using AutoCAD
● Interpret customer specifications and translate them into buildable drawings for the shop
Compliance & Quality Documentation
● Maintain material certifications for all ALDOT projects and complete required state forms
● Coordinate with ALDOT officials to schedule and support state inspections of ALDOT projects
● Ensure all documentation meets state and regulatory requirements
Administrative & Executive Support
● Report directly to the company management team
● Support additional executive-level tasks and special projects as assigned
Qualifications
● Experience in purchasing, materials management, or project coordination, ideally in a manufacturing or fabrication environment
● Proficiency in AutoCAD preferred
● Experience with ALDOT documentation/compliance a plus, but willing to train the right candidate
● Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple vendors and projects simultaneously
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills
● Comfortable working independently and reporting directly to management team
