Big changes are coming to solar net metering in North Carolina! Here's what you need to know.
Starting in January 2027, Duke Energy customers on legacy net metering will transition to a new rate structure. But don't worry, net metering isn't going away!
Homeowners will have two options:
🌉 Bridge Net Metering: A simpler option that works well for most homes without battery storage.
⏰ Time-of-Use: An option that can help homeowners save more by using energy when electricity costs less, especially when paired with battery storage.
Here's the important part: If you're currently on legacy net metering and want to switch to Time-of-Use, you'll need to opt in by December 1, 2026. Otherwise, you'll automatically transition to the Bridge Rate.
We know these changes can feel a little overwhelming, but we're here to help you understand your options and make the most of your solar investment!
We've broken down what's changing, what it means for your energy bills, and how to decide which option is best for your home. 👇
