Meet Alex De Jager of Vista Verde Dairy, a fourth-generation dairy farmer carrying on a family tradition built over decades.

Alex’s father, Art, started the dairy operation in 1981, and today Alex and his dad continue to run the dairy alongside a team of about 30 employees.

For Alex, success in dairy comes down to two things: adapting and finding ways to operate more efficiently. That mindset has also shaped the dairy’s approach to sustainability. Vista Verde chose to add a digester as a way to capture methane and put it to productive use, while also creating a diversified source of income for the farm.

Alex says working with Maas Energy Works has been a positive part of that process, pointing specifically to good communication and honesty throughout the partnership.

Vista Verde Dairy is a great example of how dairy families are adapting, investing in their operations, and finding new ways to make the most of the resources already on the farm.

Meet part of our C-suite: Stephen Hatley, CFO, has helped secure over $600 million in financing since joining in 2010 — and unwinds with a good racket sports match or planning his next trip. Geo Osorio, Chief Personnel Officer, ran a manufacturing plant before leading our Culture and Talent team, and is a competitive pickleball player with a serious chocolate habit. Mike Gross, COO, holds a German and French engineering degree and has managed businesses across the globe, but he’s just as happy mountain biking or tinkering in his workshop. Ricky Timms, Chief Accounting Officer, is a CPA who keeps our numbers on track, and brings that same intensity to CrossFit, soccer, and tennis.

Proud to see Couco Creek Dairy featured by PG&E for the work happening right here in California’s Central Valley.

This project is a great example of what dairy renewable natural gas can do: capture methane from dairy manure, upgrade it into pipeline-quality fuel, and deliver it into the existing natural gas system.

These projects start on family dairies, but their impact reaches much further — supporting local infrastructure, creating a renewable energy resource, and turning an everyday agricultural byproduct into something useful.

We’re grateful to work alongside dairy families and partners like PG&E to help bring practical, on-farm renewable energy projects to life.

CDFA recently highlighted Vander Woude Dairy in Merced, one of our farm family partners, and the story is a great reminder of what makes dairy farming so important.

The Vander Woude family’s commitment to hard work, animal care, food production, and stewardship is at the heart of everything they do.
Through their covered anaerobic lagoon digester, methane is captured and converted into renewable energy, while valuable nutrients are returned back to the land.

We’re proud to partner with farm families like the Vander Woudes who are helping feed communities and build a more sustainable future.

Joe and Cory De Hoog are third-and fourth-generation dairy farmers carrying on a family legacy that began in Southern California. Today, Cory and his uncle Joe own and operate Oak Creek Dairy in Merced, after purchasing the dairy and taking over ownership in 2022. The transition included the cows, employees, and an existing digester project. Oak Creek Dairy now employs 22 people.

The De Hoog family approach is rooted in continuous improvement. Staying on the leading edge of technology, using tools that drive efficiency, and always looking for ways to expand and improve are central to how Cory and Joe operate. In an industry facing rising costs, they believe adaptability is key to long-term success.

The digester was not the sole reason for the purchase, but it played an important role in the decision. It added a meaningful revenue component and fit into Cory and Joe’s broader strategy for building a resilient, forward-looking dairy operation.

They chose to work with Maas Energy Works because of the strong working relationship. “Maas has been fair and easy to work with. The communication is strong, and the team is always responsive. The techs are proactive when they’re on site, and it feels like a true

Jeff Troost is a fourth-generation California dairy farmer. The dairy is a family operation. Jeff, alongside his sons Johnny, Jayson, and Travys, now runs the day-to-day dairy operations. Jeff moved the dairy to Chowchilla in 1993 as development pushed them out of Southern California. Today, Troost Dairy employs 23 local people.
 
Jeff and his wife, Dana, raised four sons in the Chowchilla community, and the family has stayed deeply involved in local schools, sports, 4-H, FFA, and Cornerstone Community Church.
 
The Troost Dairy approach is simple: take care of your animals, treat people fairly, and be a good steward of your resources. To stay successful in dairy, you have to be willing to innovate and keep an eye on what is ahead.
 
That mindset is what led Troost Dairy to build a digester. “It created an additional source of revenue, but it was also a way to be part of dairy’s sustainability story,” said Troost.
 
They chose to work with Maas Energy Works because the values aligned and the company had a strong reputation in the area.
