Yesterday was pour day at Thurston high school for the two construction trades classes and for their dugout slabs. Each class was split up into two groups so everyone was able to get a chance to do every process of pouring concrete from raking concrete to bull floating to edging to joining to brooming the finished concrete. They even had the opportunity to operate the vibrating screed. All of the students were ready to learn and jumped right in. The welding teacher brought his class out for the afternoon to watch and we had quite a few students from his class that wanted to participate as well.
Thank you to Vince Messina, owner of Messina Concrete in Plymouth for donating the concrete to the school for the dug out slabs. The kids loved learning how the concrete truck opererates and seeing it in action. It showed them another option in the trades that they can pursue several years after they get out of high school.
The next step, Building Trades instructor Ms Walker who has a great history in the trades as a carpenter will work with the students in building the dug out structures.
Redford Cement is proud to be part of a community that offers amazing trades training to students as an alternative to college. We also value our wonderful business partner, Messina Comcrete. “All Roads Lead To Messina.”
