S. Geological Survey have formed a partnership to develop a world-class program of education and research in Economic Geology and Mineral Deposits. The Ralph J. Roberts Center for Research in Economic Geology is part of the Department of Geological Sciences, Mackay School of Mines. The Center, named for Dr. Ralph J. th the initial discovery of the Carlin trend, is led by a Director and is guided by a Steering Committee composed of members of the Nevada Mining Industry and the USGS. Major funding for the Center is provided by the Nevada Mining Industry, and facilities and scientific expertise of the University of Nevada, Reno, the U. Geological Survey, and the Nevada Mining Industry are available. Carlin type gold deposits are the primary focus of programs of research and education in the Center at the present time. By this name, we refer to "sediment-hosted, disseminated, stratabound yet structurally controlled precious metal mineralization.
