Reliable energy systems enable critical work in the real world.

The UC Berkeley Mobile Air Pollution Laboratory, an $800,000 research lab on wheels, depends on a robust power architecture supported by Battle Born Batteries lithium battery technology to keep sensitive instruments operating continuously in the field.

As the lab travels street by street across California, advanced analytical equipment measures hundreds of airborne chemical species every second. With a constant load and no tolerance for power interruptions, the system is engineered for the same level of reliability expected from a stationary data center.

Built around a Victron Energy B.V. power system and a Battle Born lithium battery bank, the platform delivers the stable, uninterrupted power required for mission-critical scientific research.

Dragonfly Energy introduced the 24V Battle Born Batteries DualFlow Power Pack this week at the ATA's Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) Annual Meeting, expanding our recently launched DualFlow Power Pack platform to support a broader range of heavy-duty truck electrical systems.

Designed for long-haul fleets, the DualFlow Power Pack provides dedicated power for sleeper cab hotel loads without requiring engine idling or disruptive auto start-stop cycles. The result is a quieter rest environment for drivers, reduced fuel consumption, and less strain on starter batteries and vehicle electrical systems.

With the addition of the 24V version, fleets operating trucks with 24-volt architectures now have the same ability to add a LiFePO4-powered auxiliary power system that installs easily under the bunk and charges while the truck is in operation. This makes it simple to integrate into both new trucks and existing fleet vehicles.

It has been great to see the strong interest and conversations around this solution at TMC as fleets continue looking for practical technologies that improve driver comfort while lowering operating costs.

FreightWaves highlights how Dragonfly Energy has brought lithium iron phosphate battery technology to the trucking industry with powerful all-electric auxiliary power units (APUs). Showcased at the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) annual meeting, the system stores energy generated by a truck’s alternator while driving and delivers reliable power for sleeper cab HVAC, electronics, and onboard systems, allowing drivers to complete the federally required 10-hour rest period without idling the engine.

Compared to diesel APUs or traditional lead-acid battery systems, lithium-powered solutions offer greater energy storage, quieter operation, and reduced weight, while helping fleets lower fuel consumption, decrease engine wear, and improve driver comfort. With growing fleet adoption and a design to support long-term ROI, lithium energy storage is emerging as a practical next step in idle-reduction technology for modern trucking operations.

Dragonfly Energy used the TCA annual meeting to boost its lithium-based batteries for sleeper cabs.

Earlier this week, Dragonfly Energy CEO Dr. Denis Phares presented at the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) Communications, Signals & Information Technology (CS&IT) Symposium, sharing technical insights on the evolving role of LiFePO4 battery technology in mission-critical rail infrastructure.

In the session, “LiFePO4 Battery Technology: Characteristics, Applications, and Standards Development,” he explored how lithium iron phosphate chemistry compares with legacy chemistries such as lead-acid and nickel-cadmium in control and signaling applications. The discussion focused on key performance factors including cycle life, thermal stability, low-temperature performance, and maintenance requirements in remote and demanding rail environments.

The presentation also examined Dragonfly Energy’s multi-year collaboration with industry stakeholders supporting the development of AREMA Manual Part MP 09.06.02, the first recommended guidance for lithium battery deployment in railroad applications.

As rail systems continue to modernize with increasing automation, connectivity, and remote infrastructure, energy storage solutions must deliver long-term reliability with minimal maintenance. Dragonfly Energy continues to contribute engineering expertise and real-world deployment data to support the responsible adoption of lithium battery technology across the rail industry.
