Scott Coatings

Scott Coatings We are a creative group of people intent on bringing a fresh perspective to construction. Once having five employees, we now have many times that number.

Originating in a garage in 2003, Scott Coatings has grown to become one of the preeminent commercial painting contractors in the Seattle area. And once having focused only on architectural paintings, we now tackle everything from fabric panels to FRP to wall covering and beyond. If you have an architectural product for walls, chances are we can install it. How have we gotten here? We did so by con

We're in the middle of a large painting scope right now.

The project is The Artise, a 25-story Class A office tower going through a full tenant improvement for Amazon.

We're covering 650,000 square feet across amenity floors, headcount floors, and everything in between.

At that scale, consistency has to be the main focus.

Finishes need to match from floor to floor and the work environment shifts every few days as active floors cycle through.

Because a building this size will show inconsistency fast.

So the focus stays on keeping quality consistent from floor one to floor twenty-five, not on how quickly we can move through it.

BNBuilders is the GC and Gresham Smith is the architect of record.

Both teams have set clear expectations for what the finished product needs to look like.

We're working to meet them.

Memorial Day is about the men and women who gave everything.

And today we stop to honor them.

Not just as soldiers.

But as sons and daughters, parents, friends, and teammates who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Their names deserve to be spoken.

And their service deserves to be remembered.

To the families who carry that loss every single day, we honor you, too.

We recognize what you’ve also sacrificed.

So that we could have the freedoms we do.

Thank you to all who served.

And to all who gave everything in service to this country.

We will not forget.

The strength of our team is built on the people who show up every day.

And who take pride in their work.

This month, we’re celebrating two big milestones.

Juan Amaya Coria: 5 years.

Nathan Asencio: 2 years.

Turnover is pretty common in this industry.

So these numbers say a lot about our culture at Scott Coatings.

We look for people who prioritize hard work and take ownership of their roles.

The team members who stick with us for years are the backbone of our operations.

They have the actual field experience to handle the tough job sites.

And they build the kind of trust that keeps everyone on those sites safe.

People like Nathan and Juan are a big part of why our team stays strong.

And we appreciate the hard work they put in for us every day.

Most things that derail a project didn't start as a major problem.

They started as a small issue that nobody mentioned.

A grade that looked slightly off.

A delivery running a day behind.

A site condition that didn't match the plans.

Those things compound fast when they go unaddressed.

And what could have been fixed in an hour becomes a day-long problem.

Or worse, what could have cost a few hundred dollars turns into costing thousands.

That's why we work hard to build a culture where people speak up the moment something feels off.

Not after they're certain there's a problem or after they've tried to work around it.

But the moment they notice it.

Because catching it early is almost always cheaper and faster than dealing with it after the fact.

But that only works when people trust they can flag something without hesitation.

And that their input matters and won't just be dismissed.

That openness protects the project timeline and the budget.

And it keeps small issues from becoming the kind of problems that affect everyone involved.

Construction Safety Week looks different from the field.

It's not a poster on a wall or a checklist signed before a shift.

It's the conversation the team has before work starts.

When they ask about what's changed on the site overnight.

It's a painter speaking up.

When a lift feels off before anyone gets on it.

And it's checking on the person next to you.

Because job sites are unpredictable and nobody works through a problem alone.

That's what safety actually looks like for the teams here.

Not just rules handed down from an office.

But habits built over time and decisions made in the moment.

And all of it adds up to the same goal.

Every person who shows up goes home the same way.

That's what the work is really about.

And our field teams take that seriously every shift.

Change is hard.

Every contractor knows it, but most won't say it out loud.

Client changes mean new expectations.

Team changes mean new dynamics.

New processes mean realignment.

New tools mean relearning.

None of that feels good at first.

But staying comfortable costs something too.

When we stop asking what's not working, the people doing the actual work start absorbing friction we didn't fix.

They find ways around problems that should have been solved already.

Days get harder than they need to be.

Change we don't control gets forced on us.

Change we go looking for is how we get better at the thing that matters, doing great work in the field.

It's still uncomfortable either way.

We just think one kind of uncomfortable is worth it.

Estimators might be the most overlooked, high-pressure role in construction.

They're the ones who decide what a job is worth before a single painter shows up on site.

Get it right and the crew has what they need.

Get it wrong and everyone feels it.

That pressure is real, and it shapes how field teams work every single day.

So we have a lot of respect for that, and it's why we're looking for three estimator roles that understand that responsibility and weight.

We’re looking for a Chief Estimator who will lead a team of estimators.

A Senior Estimator that knows the difference between winning work and not just bidding it.

And an Estimator who's ready to learn and grow with us.

If you see the estimating role the same way we do and you're looking for something new, apply here: https://jobs.miter.com/scott-coatings-llc

A lot can change between the start of a job to completion.

Conditions can shift and schedules can tighten.

And what teams may find on-site doesn't always match what the plans called for.

So how a contractor responds to those moments determines whether a project moves forward.

Or starts to unravel.

When issues are flagged early, GCs can make decisions before they become expensive problems.

And when they don't, those problems become delays, change orders, and headaches.

That's the difference proactive communication makes on a job site.

And it's something we take seriously at every stage of a project.

Our crews to have this proactive mindset.

They know to speak up early and stay ahead of what's coming.

And how important it is to keep the people running the project informed.

Because our clients are managing enough as it is.

The least we can do is make sure nothing on our end catches them off guard.

The decisions that keep a project on track happen all day long in the field.

And the foreman is the one making most of them.

Reading conditions before the teams arrive.

Solving problems before anyone else knows there is one.

Managing people, materials, and timelines all at once.

That’s a lot to carry.

And it takes gut instinct, experience, and accountability to carry it well.

Especially when things don't go as planned.

That’s why we invest heavily in the people who lead in the field.

Because a strong foreman keeps teams focused and schedules moving.

And gives our clients confidence that they’re getting what they were promised.

The best jobs we've delivered can be traced back to the field leadership running things on-site.

Water and wastewater facilities don't forgive shortcuts.

The chemical exposure is constant.

The moisture never stops.

And the coatings inside these environments are working harder than almost anywhere else.

So when a system fails in here, it creates compliance issues and unplanned downtime.

And the repair costs can far exceed what the right coating would have cost in the first place.

That's why system selection matters so much.

Not every coating is built for this environment.

And even the right product fails when it's applied to a surface that wasn't properly prepared.

So prep is where most of the real work happens.

Cleaning.

Profiling the surface.

Making sure conditions are right before a single coat goes on.

We've worked in these environments long enough to know what they demand:

The right system and the right prep.

Applied by people who understand what's at stake.
