Hi Everyone!

We’re excited to announce that at Championships this past weekend, we earned fourth place out of fourteen teams (over sixty competed in total)! We also received the Best Overall Design Award, for our hardware and software designs’ excellence in uniqueness, reliability, functionality, and innovation. For more details on scoring, check out the AVR website (https://www.theavr.org/2025-season-standings).

We’re proud of the work we’ve done this season, and excited to return for 2026! Although the next game won’t be announced until the summer, we’re going to spend winter and spring training members and learning new skills, so expect to hear from us periodically.

Thanks to everyone who’s supported us—sponsors, family, friends, teachers, and anyone who’s ever offered words of encouragement! It’s been a great year.

With less than two weeks until Championships, we are finalizing the revised attachment design for our Sphero RVR ground vehicle, which is built to sort and transport colored blocks that represent litter on the beach, and polishing the DEXI drone’s AI image scanner.

Next week, we will do our final testing, revise our engineering notebook, and get ready to pack!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

We are back from Texas, but not for long! After our victory last weekend, we will be moving on to Championships on December 5th, which is in three and a half weeks.

On Saturday, we placed second with 438 points and earned the Exemplary Team award. Both competition days were amazing opportunities to learn engineering skills and collaboration while putting our hard work to the test.

During these next three weeks, we will be working hard to make improvements based on what we learned in real competition, so we can show up at Championships with our best!

We are so thankful for your support! As a Gold tier sponsor, MAG Aerospace has made it possible for us to reach the point we are at now, heading to Championships after achieving first place today at qualifiers.

After our first day of competition in Austin, we are thrilled to announce that we are moving on to Championships! We won first place with 392 points, and also earned the Presentation award.

After celebrating with barbecue (we are in Texas, after all), we headed back to our hotel to discuss and adjust our vehicles based on what we learned. Tomorrow, we’ll mix things up a bit and give our newer members a chance to take on larger roles.

We had so much fun today! It’s great to see all the other teams’ different solutions, and to put ours to the test.

Look out for updates tomorrow, and enjoy a photo of our awards!

We have three meetings left until we leave for Texas on the sixth! We’re definitely in a time crunch, but we are confident in our ability to push through. Currently, we’re devoting a lot of time to our engineering notebook, an important documentation of both our designs and the ways our team works together. Though we will submit it to the competition, the notebook is also a valuable resource for our team to refer back to in subsequent seasons.

Hoodies came, so here is the promised group pic!

At three weeks from qualifiers, we are finalizing vehicle designs. Both AVR and RVR attachments have been narrowed down to two possibilities, which will be tested and decided between this week. Our extended meeting this Saturday will give us time to evaluate them fully so we are confident in our final decisions.

Another exciting update is that our team hoodies came! Be on the lookout for an awesome group photo.

Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day!

Since we are less than a month away from qualifiers, we seized the holiday for an extended meeting. Designs are being finalized, dumpsters are printing, and we are nearly ready to order our teamwear. Since it rained, we tested on a smaller scale indoors and timed the RVR completing its tasks, which will allow us to strategize more accurately and efficiently.

10/07/2025

Over the weekend, we were able to do several full game tests outdoors! We timed the tasks of each of the vehicles as they are now, which is super helpful for planning our strategy. Over the next few weeks, we will continue to test, practice, and iterate on our designs so we are prepared for qualifiers on November 7—that’s just a month from tomorrow!

Here is a time lapse of us setting the course up. (The new vinyl is thick and heavy, and so much better than last year’s, which blew in the wind and tore. We will be able to use it for years to come!)

Game test complete! Unfortunately, it drizzled throughout the day, so we had to set it up indoors, but we still got important data even without the ability to fly the AVR (main) drone. Currently, we are reworking the RVR attachment and addressing propwash on dumpsters. Weather allowing, we will simulate a more comprehensive match this coming weekend.

Check out some photos of us and the course!

The model course is very close to done and we’ve got some solid prototypes for vehicle attachments as well. This means that we are on track for a full game test a week from today! Wish us luck—hopefully there will be good news then!

Here’s a piece of the course that got built today—it’s a maze that the Sphero Minis will navigate during the challenge.

09/12/2025

We are deep into building our model course, as well as prototyping vehicle attachments. We are planning to finish the course this weekend, which will allow more realistic testing. Soon, we will set a date for our first full game test—the eight weeks until qualifiers will pass quickly, and running a full match will tell us what needs the most attention. The short season makes the competition especially challenging, and we are learning to budget time wisely.
