Kevin and Zeke attended MoDev’s Agentic AI event this Wednesday to network and connect with potential sponsors. They showcased the AVR, RVR, and Sphero Minis, giving attendees a chance to try out the AVR simulator for themselves.

Auterion, our top sponsor for the 2025 AVR season, and SkyFall recently announced a partnership to deliver 50,000 Shrike drones equipped with Auterion’s Skynode S technology to Ukrainian forces. The system uses advanced autonomy and terminal guidance to help drones accurately identify moving targets, even in environments where GPS or radio communications may be limited or disrupted.

We found this article particularly interesting because it highlights how software and autonomous systems can significantly improve the capabilities of existing hardware. The potential to add capabilities such as precision guidance and future swarming through software updates, without major changes to the drone itself, demonstrates how quickly robotics technology is evolving. As a team involved in autonomous drone development, we are especially interested in how these technologies can improve reliability, efficiency, and decision-making while reducing the need for constant human control.

Dividing and conquering! Team Daedalus has officially split into sub-teams to tackle this year's challenge: cleaning up an abandoned runway for agricultural farming.
Here is what everyone is up to this week:

· Software: ​W​orking on the code for both of our drones.
· ​Hardware: Finalizing designs for the land vehicle and drone attachments
· Outreach: ​Researching for sponsors to help fund our season
· Course: Analyzing the field layout. Construction starts ​this week.

AVR 2026 has finally kicked off! We are welcoming new members and we just started to get going with early brainstorming and setting standards and guidelines for this year’s season. The team has split up to work on getting ahead with prototyping possible attachments that could be used for this year’s competition. The team has also worked on the DEXI SIM challenge for a few weeks and has been able to place on the leaderboard. We are currently on the hunt for sponsors, so if you can help or want more information please let us know- [email protected]. Overall, this season has gotten off to a great start and we are looking forward to an exciting season ahead.

Hi Everyone!

We’re excited to announce that at Championships this past weekend, we earned fourth place out of fourteen teams (over sixty competed in total)! We also received the Best Overall Design Award, for our hardware and software designs’ excellence in uniqueness, reliability, functionality, and innovation. We’re proud of the work we’ve done this season, and excited to return for 2026! Although the next game won’t be announced until the summer, we’re going to spend winter and spring training members and learning new skills, so expect to hear from us periodically.

With less than two weeks until Championships, we are finalizing the revised attachment design for our Sphero RVR ground vehicle, which is built to sort and transport colored blocks that represent litter on the beach, and polishing the DEXI drone’s AI image scanner.

Next week, we will do our final testing, revise our engineering notebook, and get ready to pack!

We are back from Texas, but not for long! After our victory last weekend, we will be moving on to Championships on December 5th, which is in three and a half weeks.

On Saturday, we placed second with 438 points and earned the Exemplary Team award. Both competition days were amazing opportunities to learn engineering skills and collaboration while putting our hard work to the test.

During these next three weeks, we will be working hard to make improvements based on what we learned in real competition, so we can show up at Championships with our best!
