There she goes – this 35,000-pound beauty is leaving our Grand Prairie facility and headed for installation at Portland Water Bureau’s Bull Run Conveyance Pipelines project. The 66” diameter by 39-degree cement mortar lined and tape wrapped fl**ged lateral with crotch plate reinforcement is 26 feet long and 14 feet wide. The crotch plate reinforcing was a necessary component of this piece due to the high working pressure in this portion of the system. This piece is one of the many precision-engineered and fabricated components necessary for a critical tie-in as Portland builds its potable water infrastructure towards the future.

The Bay Park Conveyance Project set a new standard for trenchless infrastructure by successfully utilizing TPG Flow-Crete™ and FRP pipe systems. Thompson Pipe Group’s innovative, corrosion-resistant solutions enabled efficient single-pass microtunneling and sliplining for both pipe rehabilitation and new pipe installation, reduced installation complexity, and delivered long-term durability. To further illustrate the sustainable nature of quality concrete, we celebrate (because it would be strange to cheer a pipe) the 46-inch reinforced concrete pressure pipe installed in the mid-1930s for the Grand Rapids, Michigan water pipeline - a true testament to the enduring magic of concrete. This cross-country pipeline, completed by the Price Brothers Company (a predecessor of Thompson Pipe Group), has reached its centennial mark while still deemed fit for continued service after modern testing. The original pipeline was a pioneering project commissioned to bring Lake Michigan water to Grand Rapids.

On-Site Snapshot: Not about runaway livestock - The Bull Run Watershed is all about water sanitation.

On a recent visit, we delivered 66” C200 pipe, expertly wrapped in C214 Polyken Tape Coat; a serious setup to support Portland’s primary source of clean water since 1895. These massive pipes aren’t just impressive in scale; they’re engineered to protect Portland’s drinking water supply for generations.

Seeing civil infrastructure at this scale never gets old; it’s a reminder of the craftsmanship and planning behind every drop of safe water.
