Barrier Technologies are simple in concept. Their role is to keep two or more components separated and independent. Our CAPCELL barrier is a microcell, polymer baised air void system (bubble) designed to entrain various gases such as air, nitrogen, carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide. Our barrier technology keeps those gases separate from the outside environment it is placed in. Currently, the appli

cations in use are all related to concrete and other cementitious materials. CellTech LLC has developed the only commercially viable technology utilizing CO2 in ordinary concrete without needing to modify the concrete making process. This has the potential to enhance the final properties of the concrete
with no negative effects as well as significantly reducing the CO2 in our environment. The CAPCELL technology creates a barrier that prevents CO2 from reacting with water and calcium hydroxide as it is mixed throughout the concrete paste or wet stage. The technology utilizes a cell to capture and manage the CO2
hence defining CAPCELL. The CAPCELL process locks in CO2 at the mixing stage of the concrete. The CAPCELL technology ensures the CO2 remains locked up until the concrete reaches the point where releasing the CO2 is beneficial to the mix. The CO2 is then made available to chemically react with the calcium hydroxide which is converted, irreversibly, to calcium carbonate. Consequently, the CO2 is permanently removed
from the environment. As the CO2 is locked up via CAPCELL-ization, it does not interfere with any of the desirable wet or plastic stage properties such as slump and flow because the CO2 remains CAPCELL-ized until the concrete is placed. Controlled CO2 use in wet cast concrete can yield a superior final product, which can be optimized for strength, curing and shrinkage. CAPCELL can be utilized in all wet-cast concrete applications and requires no change in the existing materials or mixing procedures. Further, CAPCELL utilizes the concrete operations currently in place today; therefore , the implementation an commercialization can
be immediate. WHY:
Scientific data continues to alert us that Greenhouse gases are reaching critical levels in our atmosphere. CellTech is positioned to enable a leading-edge company to make a
commercial, repeatable impact on Greenhouse gases. Our world leaders are committed to reducing Greenhouse gases in excess of 25% over the next ten years. Operationally, CAPCELL can impact Greenhouse gas levels by over 265 thousand tons per year in the USA and over 14 million tons per year worldwide. For example, utilizing CAPCELL barrier technology in fifty miles of highway would consume over 185 tons of CO2. There are numerous projects and significant dollars dedicated to reducing future production of CO2 such as alternate fuel sources, cleaner running cars, reduction of plastics and livestock management. There are limited technologies devoted to the capture and permanent
removal of CO2 already in the environment. Options such as down-hole storage, crops, and oceans are all viable; however, costs are excessive and long-term implications
are not known. HOW:
CAPCELL utilizes concrete as the mechanism for implementation. At 3 tons per person per year, concrete is the number one used building material in the world and the second most consumed product next to water. Concrete
has a low-carbon footprint per pound relative to other industrial products, however the size of the industry nets the largest opportunity currently available for immediate reduction of Greenhouse gases. Good concrete design,
particularly in freeze/thaw climates, dictates an average use of 6% void space (gas) for the sustainable life of concrete infrastructure. Today’s available technology for CO2 usage in precast concrete applications limits widespread use. Current commercial technology for cast-in-place concrete applications (ready mix, on site) cannot utilize uncontrolled CO2 injection, as the CO2 engages chemically with the free water, forms carbonic acid which produces heat and can flash set the concrete. This yields less
than optimal properties for the set concrete including a reduced life span. WHO:
CellTech’s mandate is to inform and educate a broad spectrum of people and industries on the CAPCELL technology for the immediate reduction of CO2 in our environment. Industries include infrastructure and environmental sectors, in addition to government and
social media. This education will result in acceptance and adoption of necessary technologies for the sustainable
future of our planet.
