A.N.S Eastern Washington Section The ANS-EWS comprises Eastern Washington, Northern Idaho and North Eastern Oregon scientists, engin The committee meets on the last Wednesday of each month.

The section provides a regular dinner meetings or events for members and the public on the 3rd Tuesday of each month, except August. Dinner meetings, held in September, November, January, March and May, include a notable expert as presenter on topics relevant to nuclear energy development and policies. Social & network events are held in October, December, February, and May. The section also has a

n active public information committee with members willing to speak or provide public comment on nuclear energy topics.

Hello everyone, hope you are enjoying the last few days of summer!

We are delighted to invite you to an upcoming technical society’s Annual Picnic/BBQ on September 5th, 5 pm at Leslie Groves Park in Richland, Washington. This event is sponsored by the Columbia Chapter of the Healthy Physics Society (CCHPS), the American Nuclear Society – Eastern Washington Section (ANS-EWS), and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Columbia Basin Section (ASME – CBS). This is a great opportunity to hang out with friends, make new friends, and learn about upcoming activities in each of the sections – we welcome new participation.

Please r.s.v.p. with Consuelo Guzman-Leong at [email protected], no later than September 3rd in order to prepare the right amount of food. Please indicate the total number of persons in your party.

We are also looking for volunteers to setup, cook and clean up. Expect that one-half hour of your time will be devoted to helping out. If you are willing to volunteer, let us know, and we will get you the specifics.

Hello ANS EWS members! Reminder that we have two great events coming up in the next few weeks:

Next Tuesday, September 11th, we will be having our first dinner meeting with a seminar on how Bechtel. Come learn how they plan to solve the radioactive waste challenges in Hanford by building the worlds largest rad waste treatment plant. Starting soon Dr. Michael Landry from LIGO will be presenting on the discovery of gravitational waves and the validation of Einstein's theories.all of which has happened here in our Eastern Washington backyard! This public event is being held at the Kennewick high school auditorium, and is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 and the event begins at 7.

There are two exciting ANS EWS events upcoming next week!

On Tuesday, May 15th we will be having a dinner seminar at the Richland Red Lion Hanford House at 6 pm. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Jim Conca, who will be giving a very exciting presentation "Responding to a Dirty Bomb Attack". For more information and to RSVP, visit our website at:

Up next on Thursday, May 17th, ANS EWS will be sponsoring a presentation be LIGO at the Kennewick High School Art Fuller Auditorium. LIGO director Dr. Michael Landry will be presenting on how the discoveries at LIGO have verified Albert Einstein's theory of relativity. This is a free, open to the public, all-ages event that will be enjoyed by people of all backgrounds. Doors to this event open at 6:30 pm.
