Sometimes restoration starts by taking things apart.

A quick before and after from one room on our current water damage restoration project.

Before we arrived, the homeowner had done what he could with several fans borrowed from neighbors. After several days, much of the drywall felt dry to the touch, but our moisture readings told a different story.

Once we removed the drywall, it became pretty obvious just how much moisture was still trapped inside the wall. The insulation and the structure behind it were still extremely wet, even to the touch.

We removed the affected materials so we could get everything opened up, properly dried, and ready for the next phase.

It doesn’t always look prettier when the demo is finished, but this is what progress looks like.

You never really know what you’re going to find in a dryer vent.

This one had a heavy lint buildup, along with a dead bird buried in the mess.

At first glance, that didn’t make much sense because the roof termination had a screen over it. Once I inspected the vent run in the attic, though, I found a section of pipe that had partially separated.

Most likely, that opening is how the bird ended up inside the vent.

We repaired the disconnected section, cleaned the lint and debris from the vent, and removed the non-code-compliant screen from the roof termination. Screens should not be installed on dryer vent terminations because they can collect lint and create an airflow restriction.

This is why dryer vent service should be more than just running a brush through the pipe. The entire vent system matters.

We spent part of the weekend helping a local church affected by the recent flooding.

After damaged materials were removed, we helped get drying equipment in place to start pulling moisture out of the structure and get things moving in the right direction.

We’re proud to have played a small part in the roughly 600 volunteer man-hours that have gone into helping get this church moving back in the right direction.

It is hard to think about fireplace season when it still feels like summer outside, but the work is already beginning.

We worked on this gas fireplace today, serviced another one earlier this week, and recently completed a new installation. We are also getting calls about new installations, with several upcoming projects already being planned.

Five or six weeks from now, the weather could feel very different. Now is a good time to make sure your gas fireplace is clean, operating properly, and ready when that first cool evening arrives.

Improving Indoor Air Quality

Today, the Town of Lynn lost its Town Marshal, Brad Fisher, who gave his life in the line of duty.

While I didn’t have the privilege of knowing Marshal Fisher personally, those I’ve spoken with who knew Marshal Fisher described him as a man of integrity, kindness, and genuine character.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, his fellow officers, the Lynn community, and everyone grieving this tremendous loss.

We are grateful for those who put on the uniform each day, knowing the risks they willingly accept to protect the rest of us.

May God bring peace, comfort, and strength to all who are hurting.
