Wellsmith, the 2nd of three multifamily buildings at Libbie Mill Midtown, elevates the modern living experience through a variety of amenity-rich outdoor environments. Last week, a portion of our team participated in the inaugural School of Design Industry Expo with the Virginia Tech College of Architecture, Arts, and Design. The goal of the expo is to familiarize current students within the Landscape Architecture programs with the professional field and post-academia opportunities. In addition to panel discussions and sketch walks, design professionals helped conduct 1 on 1 review with the students in the form of portfolio reviews, mock interviews, and desk critiques. As the program transitions and evolves, we are grateful to participate in outreach events such as the Design Expo and it’s always great to be in Blacksburg in the Fall!

Meet our summer intern Alisha! 🌟 During our summer internship program, Alisha dove into a variety of landscape architecture projects and honed a few skills. In particular, she sharpened her Photoshop chops through detailed rendered plans – a skill she’s proud to take with her into her continued studies. She also explored master planning for the first time – an unexpected experience that sparked a new potential career path. We’re so proud of her growth and contributions to our team! Over the past year, our team has been working closely with Westminster Canterbury Richmond to enhance the landscape on their expansive campus. For this specific site, they requested vibrant, impactful garden spaces to appeal to residents. By using a large range of evergreen shrub species, flowering perennials, specimen trees, and masses of bulbs and grasses, the design was able to give instant impact once planted and will continue to grow to become gorgeous gardens for the residents to enjoy in every season. A unique feature of this community entrance space is the custom David Murphy sphere sculpture that compliments the garden with its color, form, and playful shadows! It’s been fun bringing these updates to life alongside Glen Allen Grounds Management, LLC. ☀️ 🌸 🌳
