“Chairman Griffith, along with other members of Congress, rightly questioned whether hospital systems are using 340B savings to lower patient costs or using the program to generate revenue. His expressed concerns reflect a growing recognition in Congress that the 340B program is raising costs for all Americans while not adequately serving the vulnerable patients for which it was intended.”

In Cardinal News, learn more about how the program has run off course and is driving up costs for families across the Commonwealth from pediatric rheumatologist Dr. Harry Gewanter. Congressman Morgan Griffith is right to demand answers and hold hospitals accountable for how billions in 340B savings are being used. Read more:

What was meant to be a patient-focused program is now a hospital markup program where large, tax-exempt hospital systems buy discounted drugs, mark them up by as much as 1,000% or more and bill pat…

“By supporting PBM transparency while remaining engaged on insurance reform and innovation-friendly policy, [Senator Warner] is helping chart a path forward that balances affordability with access and discovery.”

In The Virginian-Pilot, Virginia Bio CEO John Newby applauds Senator Mark Warner for co-sponsoring Senate Bill 3345, the PBM Price Transparency and Accountability Act. Pharmacy benefit managers play a central role in determining patient access to medicines, yet their practices often lack transparency or accountability. S. 3345 brings meaningful accountability to those practices — and Warner's support signals that Virginia's leaders understand how much is at stake for patients and the life sciences community alike. Virginia Bio applauds Abigail Spanberger for taking action to stop rushed government price-setting policies from taking effect in Virginia. By requiring the federal Maximum Fair Price provisions in SB271/HB483 to be re-enacted in 2027, this amendment blocks flawed federal price caps that threaten patient access, weaken medical innovation, and put the Commonwealth’s life sciences leadership at risk.

This is a major victory for patients, for innovation, and for Virginia’s future as a national biotech leader.
