🏡 SPEC HOME vs. CUSTOM HOME: What’s the difference?

Not every new construction home is built the same way, and understanding the difference between a spec home and a custom home can help you decide which option is right for you.

A custom home is typically designed around one specific buyer. The buyer is involved in nearly every decision, from the floor plan and layout to finishes, fixtures and structural details. That level of customization can offer a lot of flexibility, but it can also mean a longer building process and a higher overall price.

A spec home starts with a thoughtfully designed floor plan, established building standards and carefully selected features. Because many of those decisions are already in place, the building process can be more efficient and costs can be better controlled.

🔨 Where does C & J Builders fit?

We are primarily a spec home builder, but depending on the stage of construction, we may be able to accommodate certain selections, upgrades or changes.

Our goal is simple: build a quality home at a reasonable price.

By using proven floor plans, quality materials and established building processes, we can offer features like custom cabinetry, solid-core doors, Andersen windows and thoughtfully designed layouts without the price point of a fully custom build.

If you purchase early enough in the building process, there may be opportunities to personalize certain features. The earlier we know what you would like to change or upgrade, the better. As construction progresses, changes may not always be possible due to scheduling, materials and work that has already been completed.
