Not performing maintenance on AC systems will result in a steady decline in air conditioning performance while energy use steadily increases.

Would you try to drive a car for 5 years without changing oil or putting air in the tires?

Some maintenance you can do yourself. For example: Replace air filters on a regular basis. Make sure the outside condenser unit is not blocked and dirt and debris is not collecting in and around the unit. Keep the area around the unit clear, and trim any plants so they are at least 2 feet away.

Twice a year however – in the spring and again in the fall, you should have a professional air conditioning technician to check the air conditioning system and ensure it is operating at peak efficiency.
