WAIAM is a group within the Aerospace Industry Association of Michigan (AIAM) formed in 2021 that actively works to create advocacy, education, and visibility for women and girls in aerospace across Michigan. WAIAM strives to support all platforms and promote advancement for women through outreach, mentorship, and representation.

✨ A night of gratitude and connection!�

We gathered at San Chez Bistro to celebrate our incredible WAIAM volunteers from 2025. It was a full house of laughter, stories, and appreciation for the time and heart our volunteers pour into advancing aerospace in Michigan. 💜

As part of the evening, attendees wrote encouraging notes that will be sent in MYFFC Project Boxes to inspire the next generation of innovators.

🌟 Inspire the Next Generation of Aerospace Innovators! 🌟

The Fourth Annual Michigan Youth Future Flight Challenge (MYFFC) is right around the corner, and we’re looking for passionate Professional Industry Mentors to join us!

This virtual, state-wide competition invites 4th–8th grade students to design unique, sustainable flight solutions to real-world challenges. Over 4 weeks, teams will dive into engineering, marketing & design, and business planning & sales—and they need your expertise to guide them.

👉 As a mentor, you’ll share your story, provide feedback, answer questions, and inspire students to dream big about their future in aerospace and beyond.

Time Commitment (Flexible):�

✅ 1 hour – Mentor info session (Zoom, recorded if you can’t attend)�

✅ 1 hour per student group assigned to you (required)�

✅ Optional – Kick-Off Event (Oct. 11) & Final Presentations (Nov. 8)

That’s just 2–6 hours total between Oct. 11 – Nov. 8 to make a lasting impact!

Whether you’re an engineer, designer, marketer, or business leader in aerospace or a related field, your perspective matters. 🚀

🚀 Michigan Girls Future Flight Challenge: Driving STEM Innovation 🌟

This year, the Michigan Girls Future Flight Challenge (MGFFC) brought together 78 students from 23 cities, supported by 27 mentors from 18 companies.

Over four weeks, participants tackled real-world aerospace challenges, navigating engineering, design, finance, and business planning to create innovative flight solutions.

Through mentorship and teamwork, MGFFC continues to inspire young girls to explore STEM careers and discover their potential in aerospace. Over the last three years, this initiative has impacted 245 students across 57 cities, strengthening Michigan's talent pipeline.

👏 Thank you to the mentors, judges, and students who made this event a success. Together, we’re building the future of aerospace, one innovative idea at a time!

WAIAM had an incredible time at the Aerospace Industry Association of Michigan luncheon, hosted by Array of Engineers! The event brought together professionals from all areas of aerospace and technology for an inspiring day of networking and insights. 🌐💼

🚀 Exciting news from our Kickoff Event for the third annual Michigan Girls Future Flight Challenge! 🛫

This year, we’re thrilled to have 22 dynamic teams ready to tackle world challenges with innovative flight solutions! Today's Kickoff Event included an overview of the project and challenge statements, Keynote speaker Abby Lilly from Lockheed Martin, and two mentor speakers from Barron Industries. We were very impressed by all the girls participating who engaged with brilliant questions about our speaker's work in aerospace and their projects.

A huge shoutout to all the brilliant girls who attended—your curiosity and passion are truly impressive! We can’t wait to see the flight solutions you create this year!
