TJ (who loves music more than almost anything): “What kind of music do you like?”
Mike Boccacino: “I don’t like music.”
TJ: “You don’t like music?”
MB: “No.”

This was consistent with the fact that he never listened to the radio in his truck, even when he was driving around 8-10 hours a day. But I didn’t buy it. I was determined to find music that he would accidentally admit that he liked.

Looking for a quick victory, I started with Sinatra (a near sure thing with gentlemen of a certain age). No dice. Upon further reflection, Mike’s reserved (grumpy?) personality would have made him more of a Dean Martin guy. Not even close. He enjoyed a social gathering…. Big band jazz? Hated it. Quiet jazz? Even less!

Abandoning the mission many weeks later, I dropped in Tony Bennett’s Greatest Hits. Track one: “I Left My Heart in San Francisco”

When I turned around to head to the dinner table, I noticed a completely surprising expression on Mike’s face given I had just turned on the stereo: a contented smile. I looked at him wearing a question mark.

“I like this one.”

Rest in Peace, Tony Bennett. You cracked the toughest nut.

A very happy and well-earned Labor Day to everyone who works with their hands and their minds. But most especially to those who do so in the name of Mike Boccacino. We are very obviously nothing without you.

"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure", particularly when there's a nationwide shortage at all of the Cure Factories and the price of Cure Supplies is skyrocketing! Change your filter, make sure your outdoor unit is not dirty/clogged, and consider a system cleaning & check-up.

An increase in demand for cooling units, paired with COVID-related production slow-downs and other factors, have caused a shortage in the amount of A/C units available.

"A small business is not a big business that hasn’t grown up yet. It’s different. A small business has an owner, someone who can make decisions without meetings, who can listen to customers and who can embrace the work at hand."

I used to love when Cleveland played the Yankees. Grandpa (Mike) and I had a standing $5 bet on the game, and here's the key: if Cleveland won, he paid, but if the Yankees won, he wouldn't take my money, no matter how hard I tried (I didn't try very hard until I had a regular paycheck!). It was the only no risk gamble on earth. I'd have gladly paid $5 (or 100 times $5, or 1,000 times $5) for the chance to spend even 30 seconds with him while the Yankees whooped Cleveland in the playoffs this year. I'll just set this $5 aside for when I can lose bets to my grandson or granddaughter someday, no matter the outcome. Happy birthday, Mike/dad/grandpa. We miss you so much.

We were visiting some friends (outdoors) over the weekend, when air cleaning came up. “It’s my time to shine!”, I finally got to declare. People finally care about the ‘boring’ stuff we do all day! As the South moves indoors to avoid the summer heat and infections sky rocket there, it’s easy to think that duct work and ventilation are playing a significant role in the spread of COVID. It is amazing to see science evolve in real time, and hopefully seeing things from multiple perspectives will help stem the tide. Another reason to enjoy your time outdoors ….. you know, other than the fact that it’ll probably be snowing in 2 months!

How is it that six months into a respiratory pandemic, we are still doing so little to mitigate airborne transmission?

Thank you for your patience! Wonder why it seems 100x worse this year than other years? Because it is! (And not just because you could confidently enter an air conditioned facility in any other year) We need a minimum temperature to effectively test your A/C, so the swift jump from "FREEZING" to "BOILING" made it nearly impossible to get out ahead of any system issues via preventative maintenance. Bear with us, our techs are out there giving it everything they've got!

We became i-Wave fans the day it was introduced to us. No expensive bulbs, no complex installation, extremely high efficacy. The number of sick days we deal with having children in school is one of the biggest surprises in parenting (and an expensive one!). It seems like once the first person gets sick each fall/winter, it becomes a constant passing of whatever cold/virus enters the house from family member to family member, no matter how much we clean. We love the i-Wave as an opportunity to help address that.

As one of i-Wave’s main installers in the area, we received correspondence from them that we wanted to share, which states: “At this time COVID-19 Virus has not been made available for testing. However, the iWave family of products have been proven through independent lab testing to significantly reduce a wide variety of pathogens and viruses similar to coronavirus in the breathing zone and on hard non-porous services. It is important to note that we make no medical claims.”

First of all, imagine calling someone and asking for COVID-19! (Who do you call for that?) We would reiterate that it is unproven on COVID-19 specifically, but based on the different technologies that we’ve seen, this is the one that we trust the most against the many varieties of viruses out there. If they are able to get their hands on some COVID-19 and test it out, we’ll be sure to share the results.

Please do your best to stay safe & healthy out there!
