Join us for the 2026 Grassroots Radio Conference in Downtown Pensacola!

Now over 25 years old, the Grassroots Radio Conference (GRC) provides an intensive three days focused on the nuts and bolts of station development. Workshops and discussions will focus on the many aspects of Station Management including Program Syndication, Cultural Preservation, Technical Updates, Emergency Response, Fundraising, and more. And, in addition to beach activities, there will be celebrations of local art, music, and culture. This year, the GRC community will be celebrating the launch of WPNX-LP, a new station emerging from the 309 Punk Project that is dedicated to amplifying diverse voices in an area where it is needed the most.

The Grassroots Radio Conference salutes KCSB-FM 91.9, Santa Barbara. Founded by students in 1961 as a small carrier-current station in a UCSB dormitory, KCSB-FM has grown into one of the nation's most influential college and community radio stations. Licensed by the FCC in 1964, KCSB became known for its free-form programming, public affairs coverage, and unwavering commitment to free expression. During the 1970 Isla Vista unrest, the station made history as the only licensed U.S. radio station ever illegally ordered off the air by police, a shutdown that was quickly overturned and became a lasting symbol of the importance of independent media and First Amendment rights. More than six decades later, KCSB continues to amplify diverse voices and demonstrate the vital role community radio plays in informing, inspiring, and serving the public.

Give it up for KKFI (90.1 FM) in Kansas City, the area's premier independent, non-commercial community radio station. Broadcasting out of studios located on Main Street in Kansas City, Missouri, it is a listener-supported, 501(c)(3) nonprofit owned by the Mid-Coast Radio Project.

Launched as a 100,000-watt FM signal in 1988, KKFI has spent over three decades acting as a community amplifier. It is supported by a core staff and a network of dedicated volunteer programmers who produce weekly shows.
