Diaphragm failures typically come from a mismatch between the compound, the construction, and the application.
Six issues account for nearly every diaphragm failure we see:
1. chemical degradation from the wrong elastomer for the media
2. fatigue cracking from under-reinforced construction or a stress-concentrating geometry
3. extrusion from an inadequate bead or mounting design
4. thermal hardening or softening when a compound runs outside its rated range
5. wicking, where fluid migrates through the fabric layer at cut edges under pressure
6. delamination between the rubber and textile layers in fabric-reinforced designs
