First truckload of the season. The pavers are rolling!

It all started with the asphalt plant breaking down on Friday, pushing our schedule back to the next Tuesday. The problem...

It was the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.

And the client still wanted the work to get done.

Imagine the scene: the only entrance to a bustling Walmart, two lifts to lay down, and a sea of holiday traffic stretching farther than the eye could see. It was a logistical nightmare, but we knew we had to get it done.

At 4:00 a.m., the first mix was dropped into the paver.

The day was a true test of our crews. We had to think on our feet to keep traffic flowing while ensuring the quality of our work.

Not every job goes smoothly, and this one wasn’t without it’s challenges, but we get them knocked out regardless.

Our biggest goal this year is to put down at least 100,000 tons of asphalt.

All the other goals of the business are built around that goal.

Last year we hit about 50K tons of asphalt.

This year we are confident the team is going to move up to the next level.

Why is this goal so important to us?

1. It’s easy to build other goals around. Numbers of projects bid, number of private vs. public projects, production rates, etc.
2. It challenges us but not to a point where it’s unachievable. We also 2X’d our asphalt paving production last year.
3. It builds team unity through focus. A goal like this requires everyone to work together.
4. It serves more communities: More mix means more roads paved, more parking lots renovated, and more infrastructure improved.

It's an ambitious target, but our team will rise to the challenge.

Now it’s time to get to work!

Safety + Appearance + Cost = Smart Maintenance

Parking lots need to be repaired on a regular cadence.

Neglecting any of these can lead to bigger problems.

↳ Without Safety:

A damaged parking lot is a hazard.

It can cause trips, falls, and damage to equipment, putting both people and vehicles at risk and can open you up to liability.

↳ Without Appearance:

Your parking lot is the first thing people see. A rundown lot reflects poorly on your business.

↳ Without Cost Management:

Ignoring repairs leads to higher costs. Water seeps into the base, causing more damage over time. Fixing the base and blacktop later costs much more than maintaining the top layer now.

Out with the old, in with the new.

Porter Brothers had some fun on this mill and pave project.

We often get asked when it’s time to replace vs. repair an asphalt lot.

Well, most parking lots have a life of around 15-20 years.

Depending on what area you're in and the level of traffic, that can be reduced.

Over time, parking lots get worn down. Cracks, potholes, and other issues become common.

When repairs no longer hold up, it’s time for a replacement. This is where milling and paving come in.

Milling removes the old surface, and paving lays down a fresh layer.

The best part?

The millings can be recycled into new asphalt.

This process extends the life of the lot and improves safety.
