Does your include saving money? 💰 Or maybe this year you want to make sure your home is efficiently running? May we suggest that they could go hand in hand! Keeping up with hvac maintenance and heeding advice (see our previous posts) can lessen your monthly energy costs and keep your from randomly breaking down. Therefore, consider starting the year with a new habit- an annual HVAC maintenance appointment.

Your HVAC system needs annual service to ensure it runs properly, regardless of how well you think it’s operating. The beginning of the year is a great time to have it professionally checked, as you battle the high winter demands. Remember that prevention is often better than waiting for it to show any 'bad signs'. Any homeowner who’s faced a failed heating system in the winter knows just how expensive it can get, not to mention the unbearably cold winter nights. Maintenance will extend the life of the HVAC equipment and have it functioning at its peak.

Is your home properly closed and cozy? Another way to ensure your is properly and effectively heating your home this winter, ensure your home is properly insulated.

Of course, home insulation is not an HVAC issue. Yet it does greatly affect the temperature and energy efficiency. So we thought you all deserve this tip! Seeing that, heat naturally flows from warmer to colder spaces, hot air will escape through gaps around the doors and windows, and openings in your attic, roof, and other areas. Insulating these areas in a home will help keep warm air from escaping. 😉 🔥

When is the last time you changed your air filters?

Ideally, your air filters should remain clean (if reusable) or be changed frequently.

Specifically during winter months, air filters should remain without dirt. A clogged air filter restricts the free flow of air into the engine, which results in an inadequate air supply. As the engine works harder to supply the air, more fuel is used. But more than the fuel waste, a dirty air filter is a health risk for any homeowner. It introduces the clogged contaminants back into the air and prevents heated air from getting through. The quickest way to know if the air filter needs a change is to perform a visual inspection. A brand new filter will be white or off-white, while the dirty one will appear darker with dust and visible debris.

Real Estate guru, Sarah Collins, suggests buying the cheaper/thinner/less dense filter to prevent overworking your system with a heavy duty filter that may restrict your air flow. If you utilize this method, you should change your filter every 1-2 months.

Are you ready for winter? Outside of your , is your home ready to take on the changes of the season? If you are unsure, stay tuned as we give wonderfully easy-to-manage tips on prepping for winter.

First, how are your vents doing?
During the summer, the warm moist air is the culprit for a likely buildup of dust, pet hair, summer pollen, and mold in your vents. Buildup easily turns into clogging. Clogged or damaged air vents will make the furnace work extra hard and can prevent warm air from reaching the space you need it most during the holidays. Therefore, during the changes of the season, it’s essential to remove any clogs to have the vents functioning as they should.

How?
A vacuum cleaner will get the job done if it’s free of foreign particles. Plus, when clean, air vents allow good-quality air to flow in the house during the winter. If you need help, please contact us today!

Turn on your furnace blower on! Aka, have the fan going. This helps to re-circulate the air in your home's supply ducts.

Also, make sure your furnace has a filter system with UV lights. UV lights are known to kill microbial bacterial and mold spores. Therefore, adding this to your system will ensure your air quality is as much as 90% increased.

Stay up to date with regular maintenance on your unit. If your furnace isn’t working properly, chances are your air isn’t being kept clean either. Contact us today to schedule regular maintenance.

by letting fresh air in and keeping your floors clean.

Cracking the windows can help your home ‘breathe better’ especially if it is newer. Without the fresh air, your home is just re-circulating the same air, over and over. This can be a real problem for indoor air quality. Cracking the windows allows fresh air into your home. By keeping the floors clean, mopping, vacuuming, and utilizing doormats, you remove particles that will eventually end up in the air. 💡

Do you have the correct levels of humidity in your home?
Humidity is the amount of water v***r in the air. It is best considered in relation to temperature. As temperatures go up or down, the capacity of the air to hold water changes. Cool, now why do you care?

🤓Improper humidity levels can cause damage to both the inside and outside of your home, may feel uncomfortable to live in, and may also become susceptible to respiratory disorders or chemical reactions. Winter may require lower than 40% relative humidity to avoid condensation on your windows. By staying in the proper ranges, problems can be prevented.

ASHRAE suggests a range of 45% - 55% humidity to manage health effects and illnesses.
Comfortable: 30% - 60%
Recommended: 45% - 55%
High: 55% - 80%
