On Saturday, October 17, 2026, the Barnes-Hecker Mine Disaster Memorial celebrated its grand opening, honoring the 51 miners who lost their lives in the tragic 1926 disaster.

UP Fabricating is proud to have contributed to this special project through our work on the memorial statues and commemorative plaques. The statues offer a powerful visual reminder of the lives and families forever changed by this tragedy, while the plaques preserve the stories and history of the men who will never be forgotten.

A special thank you to Ely Township for its efforts, dedication, and commitment to bringing this memorial to life. Projects like this take vision, hard work, and a community passionate about preserving its history.

We’re honored to have played a part in creating a lasting tribute that will educate future generations, invite reflection, and ensure the legacy of the Barnes-Hecker miners lives on.

More than statues and plaques — a lasting reminder of our community’s history, resilience, and the lives we will never forget.

A meaningful milestone at Barnes-Hecker Memorial Park. Barnes-Hecker 100th Anniversary

We're honored to have completed the installation of these memorial plaques, each sharing the story of a miner who lost his life in the tragic Barnes-Hecker Mine disaster of November 3, 1926.

These memorials help preserve the names, faces, and stories of the men whose lives and sacrifices shaped our community. We hope they provide visitors with a deeper connection to this important chapter of local history and offer a place for reflection and remembrance.

It is a privilege to contribute to a project dedicated to honoring their legacy for generations to come.

We're excited to finish up with the statues in the next few weeks!
