What do you do in March I am asked?
March is when the Winter seems like it will be here forever, and you take every glimpse of sun and nice weather to think and pray that Spring is here, and Summer is on the way!
It's been a long winter, and you have been in the house a lot. Time to look at some things for attention down the road.
◾ Inspect walls and ceilings for cracks or bulges, and patch and paint as necessary. believe it or not, small cracks and pin holes can be filled with tooth paste or a mixture or water and starch, or flour. push it into the area to be filled, and wipe with a wet sponge to match the existing area.
◾ Hire a professional to check your water heater.
There are things you can do yourself, but if you are not careful, water heater maintenance can be hotter than you think! Preventive maintenance on a water heater is inexpensive. A neglectful water heater will fail at the worst possible moment, and could cost more than you think!
◾ Check basement and crawl space for moisture or leakage after wet weather. As the ice and snow melts, water finds the path of lease resistance. Time to check the basement for leaks and smells now, so they can be fixed when its warmer. take care to mark where you see water, or better yet, take pictures.
◾ Examine exterior fascia and trim for deterioration.
Take a look around, and bring a camera.
this list can go on and on, but most importantly, you as a home owner need to be mindful of your home and how it is doing. Weather can do strange things to nails and paint, and even areas that before winter looked solid and pretty!
Now is the start of your honey-do list for your home and garage.
