14th Annual Montgomery County Business Hall of Fame Luncheon

As a past recipient of the award, Jim Soltesz was pleased to join fellow business and community leaders on October 19 for the 14th Annual Montgomery County Business Hall of Fame Luncheon at The Universities at Shady Grove. Emceed by Amelia Draper, this year’s event honored Bernard, Blair, Caulfield, Dr. Kam Lau, Verelyn Gibbs Watson, and Bob Youngentob for their leadership, entrepreneurship, and contributions to the Montgomery County community.

Presented by Grossberg Company LLP, CPAs, and The Bergel Institute, the Hall of Fame also advances an important philanthropic mission. Since its inception, the program has raised nearly $2 million for scholarships at The Universities at Shady Grove, helping expand educational opportunities for students throughout Montgomery County.

President and CEO Jim Soltesz, PE has been reappointed to the post of Board of Directors to the Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation. This is second term for Jim which lasts three years. The MCEDC works closely with local and state government, industry leaders, academic institutions, and community partners to ensure businesses have the resources and connections needed to grow. It also helps implement the County’s Economic Development Strategic Plan, which aims to create a unified vision for sustainable, equitable, and innovative economic growth.

Here at Soltesz, our engineers are frequently involved in continuing education seminars from allied disciplines in our field. The latest involved specialty engineering that includes subsurface information modeling, utility mapping, and utility engineering. This enables Soltesz to bolster our capabilities in offering better design and constructability to our clients and our projects.

🎉 A major milestone years in the making!

Downtown Konterra officially broke ground in May, marking the next phase of a transformative 1,400-acre mixed-use community in Prince George's County.

For more than a decade, Soltesz has worked alongside the project team to advance this vision. From planning and engineering to infrastructure and permitting, projects of this scale require long-term collaboration and commitment.

We're excited to see construction begin and look forward to watching Konterra continue to take shape.

🏗️ Bringing projects to market takes years of planning, coordination, and investment.

Maryland's new Housing Certainty Act (HB 548) is intended to create a more predictable development process by helping ensure projects are reviewed under the regulations in place when applications are submitted.

Greater certainty can help reduce delays, improve project planning, and support the delivery of much-needed housing and development throughout Maryland.

🏥 Congratulations to Adventist Health Shady Grove Medical Center on the ribbon cutting of the new Horizon Tower!

Soltesz Vice President and General Manager Jyotika Sharma and Assistant Project Manager Dana Chiao attended the celebration, toured the facility, and got a firsthand look at how this incredible project will expand healthcare services for our community.

Soltesz provided site development and stormwater management services for the project, including green roof features that help manage stormwater while supporting a more sustainable campus. During the tour, the team visited the new Emergency Department, ICU, imaging facilities, and other patient care areas that will serve the region for years to come.

And yes—we have to mention the awesome miniature Horizon Tower building-block model that guests received as a keepsake! 🧱👏

We're proud to have played a role in a project that will benefit patients, families, caregivers, and the entire community.

🤝 Strong communities are built through strong partnerships.

On June 2, Soltesz President & CEO Jim Soltesz joined leaders from Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation - Maryland and Montgomery Planning for a discussion focused on expanding economic opportunity, supporting housing growth, and creating jobs throughout Montgomery County. The briefing brought together staff from The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission and MCEDC to discuss ways both organizations can continue working together to support the County's future.

We're grateful for the collaboration and leadership that help make Montgomery County a great place to live, work, and do business.

🐶 Then and now! 🐶

A few years ago, Senior Project Manager Tim Hoffman introduced us to his basset hound puppies. With their extra wrinkles, extra-long ears, and extra-short legs, they quickly became office favorites.

Fast forward to today, and they've grown up—but they're still experts at making friends, collecting belly rubs, and being distractingly cute.

We're pretty sure some things never change.

Great conversations at the Maryland Building Industry Association Montgomery County Chapter Annual Breakfast on May 15!

The event focused on important topics shaping Montgomery County, including housing, redevelopment, permitting, and economic growth. Speakers included Andrew Friedson and Artie Harris, who shared updates on the future of development in the County.

We were especially proud to see Kyle Soltesz lead the event as Chair of the Montgomery County Chapter and present the Malcolm Shaneman Quality of Life Award to Katherine Mencarini of the Montgomery County Planning Department.
