Our MSE students had the chance to connect with industry professionals before the career fair at our MSE Ice Cream & Industry Mixer this week. Students got to learn more about internships, co-ops, and career opportunities while meeting representatives from companies interested in hiring metallurgical, ceramic, and semiconductor engineers.

Thank you to all of the companies who joined us and to our students for making the event such a success!

Meet an MSE Intern!

----Duncan Emery----

Duncan is pursuing a bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering! 🔥

As an intern in Steel Dynamics' Structural and Rail Division, Duncan is gaining valuable hands-on experience in the casting process. He has even had the opportunity to make heats at the ladle metallurgy furnace!

Duncan also had the chance to reconnect with a familiar face when our own Dr. Ron O'Malley visited Steel Dynamics to lead a training session for the casting team.

Congratulations to Dr. Mario Buchely on being selected as a co-principal investigator on a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Genesis Mission award! 🎉

Meet an MSE Summer Intern!

----Miguel Madrigal III----

Miguel is working toward a bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering.

This summer, Miguel is interning at Molycop USA.

He has been researching the heat treatment and phase transformations of steel grinding media while contributing to the development of Molycop's new Marked Ball Wear Test (MBWT) methodology by performing statistical analysis and creating customer reference material. He is also visiting mining and mineral processing operations in Colorado and Arizona, as well as steel mills in Indiana, to gain firsthand experience with grinding media applications, quality assurance, and supplier manufacturing.
