Quick automotive engineering lesson!

Between the engine and the driveshaft sits the transmission.
The clever mechanics born from a union of ingenious design and precise engineering.

The transmission is what makes the wheels turn. The Flywheel of the engine releases rotational energy that is then transferred to gears of the transmission through the clutch. The gears then engage the driveshaft and make the wheels turn, providing more or less torque and speed depending on the gear.

Manual transmissions require the driver to swap gears through careful timing by manually releasing and engaging the clutch, but Automatic transmissions take care of it without such manual timing through the use of things like hydraulics, electronic control units, or other means.
