Until recently, thyroid cancer was one of the fastest-growing cancer diagnoses in the U.S., largely due to more thyroid tumors being discovered during imaging exams performed for other medical conditions. With stricter diagnostic criteria, however, incidence rates have declined by 1.4% annually from 2013 to 2022.
Two important facts to know:
• Thyroid cancer is most commonly diagnosed around age 51.
• Women are approximately three times more likely to develop thyroid cancer than men.
