The CAF is a registered 501(c)3 dedicated to providing champions for change with the tools they need.

The Center provides educational spaces (online and brick and mortar), funding tools and consulting services to people interested in alternative fuels and advanced vehicles.

Our mission is to centralize public and fleet manager attention on alternative fuels and advanced vehicles. Our Centers provide innovators, entrepreneurs and the general public the tools and resources they need to succeed. We encourage and enable innovation, collaboration and development of new technologies.

Our Story

The Center for Alternative Fuels is a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to supporting the growth of the alternative fuels and advanced vehicle industry. The Center serves as a major hub of innovation, education, and adoption of alternative fuels and advanced vehicle technologies throughout Northern California.

Through the provision of a variety of valuable technical services—including a powerful new Fleet Analysis and Optimization process developed by carbonBLU—the Center will help regional municipal and private fleets accurately assess their existing carbon emissions and regulatory compliance; fully understand the economics of conversion to alternative fuels or advanced vehicle technologies; and take concrete steps that will help them measurably reduce emissions, ensure compliance, and save money.

Equally as important, the Center will provide innovators and technology companies the resources and connections they need to develop and demonstrate their technology. Access to technical experts, demonstration projects and funding will all be facilitated at the Center for Alternative Fuels.

This initiative is made possible by the California Energy Commission, carbonBLU, Grant Farm, ECO, Inc and Alternative Fuel Advocates.

Headquartered at 222 Judah Street, Roseville, CA our facility can host small board meetings, classes, remote classes, webinars and several teams of entrepreneurs. The space provides ample storage space for those looking to park their projects at our building. Additionally, our team maintains relationships with emissions and engine testing labs all over the region. Additionally, we have a full suite of emissions testing, data collection and analytics tools on hand.

Our center is one of several distributed throughout California. While each facility is different in nature, we are proud to collaborate with BKI in South Sacramento, UC Berkley, CALSTART, The Center for Sustainable Energy and the E4 Mobility Alliance.

The Center for Alternative Fuels offers a suite of online tools to empower entrepreneurs, fleet users and the public. These tools have been developed by the team at carbonBLU and are what really sets this Center apart from other efforts to accelerate the adoption of alternative fuels and advanced vehicles.

Analytics & Data Mining Tools

Users can log in, and upload or input data on their operations, and receive back analysis on their fleet, regarding the best options that exist for them to reduce spending and increase deployment of alternative fuels. These reports will take into account fuel spending, efficiency factors and available commercial solutions. They will highlight the best way for fleets to meet aggressive ZEV deployments goals and become more economically and environmentally sustainable.

Grant Opportunities & Collaboration Spaces

The Center for Alternative Fuels is home to an innovative and ambitious open data project. Our unique hand raising system will allow for interested groups to submit projects and ideas, as well as make requests for funding from the regulatory agencies. We have developed this platform as a way for you to communicate individual needs to the government and technology providers. We will aggregate similar requests in order to better inform the RFP development process for the Energy Commission and the California Air Resources Board.

The Center for Alternative Fuels is committed to empowering all communities and people with the tools they need to disrupt the transportation industry. Users can access development platforms and educational infrastructure which will allow them to make their ideas into real products and companies.

Online courses in sustainability and entrepreneurship will be made available to users. We are committed to supporting educators and thought leaders in the Northern California Region with a full suite of materials and information that is packaged and ready to be deployed directly into the classroom.
