The burner wasn't the problem. The I/O list was.

When a combustion startup turns into days of troubleshooting, the root cause usually isn't the burner. It's a decision made months earlier, on a drawing set nobody reconciled.

Control panel I/O that doesn't match field devices. A gas train sized for flow but not for maintenance access. Burner management sequences programmed on the fly because controls came into the project late.

None of these are hard problems individually. They're just dramatically cheaper to solve before fabrication begins.

The best startups are the quiet ones — equipment starts, safety systems verify, production begins on schedule. No dramatic story, because the engineering already prevented one.

We're Hiring: Two Field Service Roles at Engineered Combustion Systems

Engineered Combustion Systems is growing our field service team, and we're looking to fill two roles: one for someone just starting their career, and one for an experienced pro ready to lead.

- Entry Level Field Service / Assembly Engineer

Get hands-on with industrial process heating equipment.

Commission and inspect equipment at customer sites (50-70% travel, mostly domestic).
Perform occasional break/fix work in the field
Wire electrical components, assemble equipment, and handle shop tasks between trips

- Senior Field Service Engineer / Project Manager

Bring your combustion expertise to a leadership role.

Commission, inspect, and repair industrial burners at customer sites (50-70% travel, mostly domestic).
Oversee and coordinate all project-related activities: kickoff meetings, approval drawings, mechanical and electrical coordination, purchase orders, and customer delivery updates
Manage payment follow-up with customers

Catalog fuel trains are built to pass code. They're not built for cement kilns, asphalt dryers, or gypsum calciners.

In building materials facilities, combustion equipment runs in some of the harshest conditions in industry — constant vibration, abrasive dust, and radiant heat that degrades standard components faster than manufacturers ever intended.

The result?

Valve failures, nuisance lockouts, and unplanned line shutdowns at the worst possible time. 🔧
Custom-engineered fuel trains are designed around how your plant actually runs — not around a catalog part number. The difference shows up in uptime, maintenance call frequency, and how smoothly your system passes safety audits.

If your facility keeps fighting the same combustion problems, the equipment may not be the issue. The spec might be.

Snack ovens and cereal dryers don't drift because of bad operators — they drift because of bad engineering upstream.

Fuel train instability. Burners that can't hold low-fire. Control loops that react too late. These are the real reasons food manufacturers struggle to hold tight thermal profiles through startups, changeovers, and sanitation cycles.

Engineered Combustion Systems breaks down exactly how to fix it — from high-resolution pressure regulation and feed-forward control logic to commissioning practices that lock in performance for the long haul.

If your oven is still being "chased" instead of controlled, this one's worth a read.
