Denis and Julie Schoenhofer's Copy Of Jess is the fastest qualifier to the June 15, $175,258 Mountain Top Derby (R) for New Mexico-bred 3-year-olds.

Aided by a reported 12-mph tail wind at Ruidoso Downs on Saturday, Copy Of Jess won the third of six trials by 1 1/4 lengths while going 350 yards in :17.407. Eduardo Nicasio rode the Jesse James Jr filly for trainer James J. Gonzales III, who prepped the four fastest qualifiers.

Copy Of Jess was making her first start since February 17, when the filly scored a neck victory in a 350-yard, $50,800 allowance dash for state-bred sophomore fillies at Sunland Park. Copy Of Jess was bred by Mac and Janis Murray's MJ Farms at Veguita, New Mexico, and she was a $77,000 purchase at the 2022 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale.

Copy Of Jess is out of Fast Copy Miss, a winning Heza Fast Man mare who ran second in the 2006 Four Corners Futurity (G3) at SunRay Park. All told, the filly has won three of eight starts and has earned $54,667, of which $36,807 has been pocketed from two outs this season.
