Hot Pressing Process
A brief overview of the hot pressing process:

-The metal or ceramic powder is placed into a stationary die within the vacuum furnace.
-The furnace is heated and ran at a specific temperature profile, while simultaneously pressing vertically down upon the powder with a hydraulic ram.
-While the force is applied vertically, there is also radial pressure created against the die wall, and these pressures together with the heat result in effective particle joining.
-The densification begins with particle rearrangement and plastic flow at the particle contacts, and progresses into grain boundary diffusion, creating the finished material.
-Finished parts do usually require some diamond grinding to achieve the final shape tolerances.

Materials Testing & Analysis Capabilities

We provide specialized testing and analysis services beyond what conventional testing laboratories typically offer, including:

• Metallography Laboratory Analysis – Evaluates welding, brazing, soldering, other material joining techniques, and finished products for quality and integrity.

• Helium Leak Testing – Using highly sensitive mass spectrometer leak detectors, we locate and quantify leaks in materials and assemblies. With helium tracer gas, sensitivities up to 6E-11 atm cc/sec are achievable.

• Electrical Testing & Qualification – Determines the electrical integrity of assemblies operating in harsh and unusual environments, including high vacuum and elevated temperatures.

• Vacuum Integrity Testing – Assesses the suitability of materials and products for vacuum environments while analyzing outgassing from advanced materials, assemblies, and space hardware.
