Calling all coders! Students can take a screenshot of their completed Hour of Code activity and send it to [email protected] to receive a certificate of completion, a button, and an entry into a raffle for a Barnes & Noble gift card! Mark your calendars for December 7 -12 and get ready to have some coding fun at code.org!

The Hour of Code takes place each year during Computer Science Education Week, which is December 7-12, 2020. The Hour of Code is a global movement introducing tens of millions of students worldwide to computer science, inspiring kids to learn more, breaking stereotypes, and leaving them feeling empowered. We encourage kids and teens to try their first hour of computer science on Code.org at home on their computers, tablets, or smartphones! Code.org’s own activities feature Minecraft, Star Wars, Frozen, Angry Birds, and Plants vs. Zombies. CodeBytes will be live streaming 20-minute interactive lessons, twice a day, 12/7-12/11! Learn more at code.org/codebytes.

Students can take a screenshot of their completed coding activity and send it to [email protected] to receive a certificate of completion, a button, and an entry into a raffle for a Barnes & Noble gift card!

To all our past and present Ninja Families:

We hope you and your family/friends are all doing well during this difficult time. Unfortunately, we have had to cancel the summer SH CoderDojo courses. The library has been closed to the public for the past two months due to the pandemic and all scheduled events and programs have been canceled until further notice. For more library COVID-19 information and updates, please visit the SHPL website link here.

Code.org - https://code.org/hourofcode/overview Launched in 2013, Code.org® is a non-profit dedicated to expanding participation in computer science by making it available in more schools and increasing participation by women and underrepresented students of color. Our vision is that every student in every school should have the opportunity to learn computer science. We believe computer science and computer programming should be part of the core curriculum in education, alongside other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) courses, such as biology, physics, chemistry, and algebra.

Scratch - https://scratch.mit.edu/ With Scratch they can program their own interactive stories, games, and animations — and share creations with others in the online community. Scratch helps young people learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively — essential skills for life in the 21st century.

Free Code Camp – https://www.freecodecamp.org/ This is a great website that has hundreds of videos, tutorials, lessons – all for free! It can keep you busy all summer long!

We really hope to see you all in the fall!

Sincerely,
Safety Harbor CoderDojo Founders/Champions and Mentors

Hello SHCoderDojo families! Our ninjas can continue to learn coding at home with a variety of projects online at https://www.shcoderdojo.org/courses and all of the Code Club and CoderDojo projects are available for free, in multiple languages, on our projects platform https://projects.raspberrypi.org/en?mc_cid=e4104b5776&mc_eid=06348de28a.

Our Scratch, HTML/CSS, and Python projects can be completed online, without the need to install any new software.
There’s also lots more for learners on the platform, including some fantastic ideas of what to build with a Raspberry Pi computer. CoderDojo will be posting project ideas and challenges on their blog and social media channels.

Stay safe and be well!
