2. Iron is then brought up and down in the soil profile and deposited.

3. When air reaches it again it shows up in the soil as red/orange/yellow areas.

4. Another indicator we use to determine wet season water table.

➡️Area shown under stripped E layer. This one shows how varied spodic layers (or any layer) can vary greatly and do not follow a perfect horizontal pattern.

❓️Spodic happens when the organics of another layer (in this case and almost always the E layer above it) are concentrated in one area.

➡️These layers are always very dark and are often cemented preventing water from percolating through.

‼️Spodic layers have to be excavated if they are within 42" from the bottom of a drainfield.
