A Few Myths About Spray From

1. Myth – Spray foam makes the house too “air-tight”

When you’re concerned about your house being too tight, you’re more concerned about the air quality and humidity in your home.
In a new build home, an HVAC contractor will determine the size of the system your home needs, which in turn can keep your home from being too tight. The mechanicals should handle the air exchange your new home needs.
If you’re worried about your existing home, while this rarely happens, the fix is actually pretty easy.
“Turning on a bathroom fan or kitchen hood once daily will exchange the air in your house, so you have fresh air coming in

2. Myth – Spray foam is a very expensive proposition

This is a common misconception, and a shortsighted perspective. The truth is, when spray foam is installed, it does cost more than traditional insulation. But spray foam is a high-performance product, and the so-called “payback period” is usually less than 5 years – it’s an excellent return-on-investment. By any definition, traditional insulation will end up costing more in the long run.

3. Myth – Spray foam insulation is new and untested

Spray foam insulation is not new, and manufacturers are continually making improvements.
In fact, during the 1960s, polyurethane foam was used in all types of commercial refrigeration applications. As for today, application methods and equipment have become very mobile, allowing installation crews to easily spray foam into attics, basements, and exterior walls.

4. Myth – Closed cell foam is better than the open cell

There is no such thing as one foam product being better than another. Each of the products has its own attributes, and each is preferable in certain applications. Open-cell foam is not intended for exterior use; not intended for below-grade; and not intended to be in contact with water. The closed-cell foam, on the other hand, can be used in each one of the above-noted applications.

5. Myth - Spray foam insulation can’t be installed in the winter

Although spray foam insulation has temperature provisions, it can be installed year-round. In instances where an attic’s air temperature is cooler than permissible, insulation contractors can bring in space heaters to bring the attic to the correct air temperature.

Why choose Spray Foam Roofing Over Other Roofing System’s
Here’s a few reasons why…..

1.Easy & Fast Installation
The ease of installation can save you time and money with your new SPF roof. The application of the foam and coating is quick and can be applied with usually no interruption to the daily routine of the facility.
Spray Polyurethane Foam Application
SPF roofs are installed by spraying a liquid on the existing roof and allowing it to expand into foam.
This process means that the foam can conform to all roof shapes and types, even irregularly shaped roofs.
After cleaning the existing roof, the SPF roof can be applied directly over asphalt, shingles, concrete, metal, wood and even old rubber roofs.

2.Seamless and Waterproof

Seamless SPF Roof
Seams and penetrations are the primary sources of leaks in roof systems, spray foam eliminates this vulnerability. Since the spray foam mixture is applied as a liquid, it can fill gaps, seams, and cracks in the existing roof and substrate.
The application of the polyurethane foam allows the contractor to level out the roof to decrease the chance of ponding water. The foam material can expand and contract with the building in accordance with outside temperatures, reducing the likelihood of cracks and splitting.

3.Spray polyurethane foam roofs are self-flashing

Self-flashing refers to spray foams ability to conform to irregular shapes.
“It might take a conventional roofer 30 minutes to flash around a curb, spray foam can be applied in about two minutes”.
Other roofing systems, like rubber, will need to be custom cut in order to be installed properly around a curb.
Self-flashing allows spray foam to be applied faster around all penetrations, including:
• Parapet walls
• Vents
• Pipes
• HVAC units
• Skylights
• Drains

3. Energy Efficient

SPF roofing delivers thermal, air, and moisture barriers to provide the highest R-value per inch, which means the material provides better insulation for the building.
The polyurethane foam keeps heat out in the summer and in during the winter, lowering energy costs for facility owners. The silicone top coating resists UV light, protecting the foam and reduces heat absorption (emissivity).

4. Lighter and stronger

Compared to other systems SPF roofs have out preformed other roofing systems over and over again.
It’s lighter then most roofing systems like metal, shingle, asphalt, rubber and rock ballast roofs taking a lot of weight and strain of your structure.
Also In many situations like storms and even hurricanes a SPF roof has held up better then other systems. Its been proven the building structure failed or gave away before the SPF roof did. Unlike shingle, metal, or rubber roofs that are laid on the structure and lightly attached to a structure making it easy for wind rains to get in after it fails SPF systems fully attached to the structure actually making the structure stronger.

5.Easy Maintenance

Once an SPF roof is installed, it requires minimal preventative maintenance and repair. If properly maintained, your SPF roof can last a life time.
SPF roofing systems should be inspected semi annually, in the Spring and again in the Fall. Additional inspections are also suggested following any event like huge storms or construction that might have caused damage to the system.
In the event where damage may have accrued fix’s are usually as simple and isolated to a small area meaning , there’s no expensive tear-off and replace of the existing materials. All we usually have to do fix and apply the new coat on top of the current system.

6. Renewable and Sustainable Roofing

Spray foam roofs create little to no waste during their lifetime. In most cases, there is minimal stripping of the original roof, and the SPF roof is installed on top – eliminating the need for costly roof tear-offs and waste.
The materials that are used for SPF roofing systems are also environmentally friendly:
• Zero Ozone Depleting Potential (ODP)
• Low in the Emission of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCS)
• Free from Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCS)
• Ultra-Low Global Warming Potential (GWP)

7. 10-20+ Year Renewable Warranties

Depending on what warranty you choose on your SPF roof and keeping up on the minimum maintenance and warranty program your roof can last a life time.
When it’s coming to the end of your roofs warranty renewing the warranty for another 10-20+ years is usually as simple as cleaning the roof surface, fixing any damages and recoating the top coatings witch is way simpler and cheaper that other roofing system can’t offer.

Is Spray Foam Worth It?????
9 Reasons to choose spray foam over traditional insulation

1.Air-tight seal.
Once the Spray Foam Insulation is applied directly into the cracks, it expands, drying quickly while blocking air and water.
Spray Foam Insulation specifically has shown to be 24 times less permeable to water and air infiltration than other types of insulation, keeping your home nice and warm.

2. Moisture Barrier.
One of the unique abilities of Spray Foam Insulation is getting into small cracks and crevices.
What this translates to for you, the home-owner, is not only costs and savings, but a more efficient trapping of heat and cooling in the summer regardless of your R-value.

3. R-value
Get more R-value Per inch
That spray foam fills all the cracks and gaps and don’t let air thru it like traditional insulations it creates a higher R-value per inch

4. Noise Control.
A well-insulated system helps reduce noise levels by absorbing emitted sound from one area to another.
For that musician in your life there are even extra noise-reduction spray foam insulation installations so that you can finally get your studio down at your basement and also get some rest.

5. Healthier
Spray foam insulation is excellent at reducing the amount of pollen, allergens, insects, and even rodents that get through the walls! This is because the foam expands into hard-to-reach places, preventing outside oxygen from penetrating the walls even the slightest!
Also, Spray Foam Insulation is composed of an inert polymer that provides no source of food for mold or bacteria. Yay less trips to the doctor!

6. Long Life-span.
As you probably already know since you’re reading this, regular insulation sags and breaks down over the years, needing to be replaced time and time again.
If you are thinking on renovating your basement you definitely have to consider basement cost with the Spray Foam Insulation because the end result is simply a greater longevity on your purchase.

7. Adds structural strength
When spray foam is properly installed it actually helps make your structure stronger.
The spray foam is ridged and sticks to the structure giving it stiffer back bone / skeleton and glue to hold structure together.

8. Eco-friendly.
Spray foam insulation is inherently Eco-Friendly since it helps to reduce energy consumption and create a “green” household. In fact, in some jurisdictions, you can even access home rebates for upgrading your pre-existing “pink stuff”, sometimes as much as up to 50% back per square foot!!!

9. Energy Saving.
A properly designed insulation system immediately reduces the need for energy, and results in significant yearly savings.
Spray foam insulation has shown to provide energy savings at an average of at least 40-50%.
With those savings it will pay for its self in no time!!!
