Saint John's football saw its season come to a close in the Sweet 16 on Saturday in River Falls, Wisconsin, where the high-powered UW-River Falls offense scored 28 second-half points for a 42-14 final. The Johnnies had the early lead after a Westin Hoyt interception setting up St. John’s at the River Falls 2 yard line, three plays later, Quarterback Trey Feeney found tight end Andrew Harren of Sauk Rapids in the back of the end zone for a 7-0 lead with the extra point. The Falcons scored on their ensuing drive and added another touchdown early in the second quarter for a 14-7 lead at halftime. The Johnnies struggled all day generating offense managing just 295 yards and 14 points, well below their season averages on the way to completing a 10-2 season. SJU senior wide receiver Dylan Wheeler finished his collegiate career as just the fourth 3,000-yard receiver in Johnnie history, totaling 3,182 yards during his time in Collegeville and moving into second place all time on numerous receiving lists. The Johnnies senior class finishes with a 39-7, two conference titles and record three NCAA tournament appearances.

As proud sponsors of the Johnnies “Player of the Game” let’s cheer on the team’s efforts as they prepare for their November 29 game while remembering that like Weidner’s they are a “Team you can Count on”

Johnnies Football is playoff bound again!! The 7th ranked St. John’s football team completed a 9-1 regular season by routing St. Olaf 63-21 in their final regular season home game last Saturday. St. John’s is making their 10th appearance in the Division 3 playoffs in the last 11 years and 30th overall. The Johnnies will open at home in round two of the playoffs(after earning a first round bye) against Monmouth of Illinois, the champions of the Midwest Conference. That game will be played in Collegeville on November 29th with a noon kickoff.

The Johnnies and the Fighting Scots have some playoff history between them. St. John’s defeated the Fighting Scots 62-3 in the first round of the 2005 NCAA playoffs. Former Johnnies defensive lineman Kevin McNamara led the Johnnies with 7.5 sacks, setting a record that still stands today.

SJU has a 50-28 (.641) all-time postseason record, including a 27-8 (.771) mark in Collegeville.
