It’s Week 3 of Osceola County High School Football’s Friday Night Lights!

The lights are coming on, the stands are filling up, and high school football is back on the field tonight across Osceola County!

As teams battle under the Friday night lights, Positively Osceola and Osceola Air, AC & Plumbing Pros will once again be watching for a standout student-athlete to honor as the Positively Osceola Osceola Air Player of the Week.

Each week, the honor recognizes an Osceola County high school football player whose performance, effort and leadership stand out on the field.

🏆 Last week, Gateway High School running back and wide receiver Nydrell Thigpen earned Player of the Week honors following his standout performance for the Panthers.

Who will step up tonight and become our next Player of the Week? 👀🏈

**POSITIVELY OSCEOLA'S 'OSCEOLA AIR PLAYER OF THE WEEK': Nydrell Thigpen Turns Around Panthers Fortunes!!

Gateway High School head coach Marlin Roberts says he doesn’t understand why more college football recruiters are not knocking on junior running back Nydrell Thigpen’s door.

If he keeps producing on his current level, that could change in the coming months.

Thigpen was a major factor in Gateway’s 13-12 season opening win over a much-improved Lake Minneola club on Friday night – earning Positively Osceola’s Osceola Air Player of the Week for Week 2 of the 2026 season.

Thigpen ran past, around and through the Hawk defense, gaining 158 yards on 24 carries –averaging 6.3 yards per attempt. Many of those yards came after first contact and they did not include a 40-yard carry on his first attempt of the night that was called back by an offensive hold.

He was particularly effective on Osceola’s two touchdown drives. He scored the team’s first touchdown on an eight-yard power run up the middle and on Gateway’s decisive touchdown run of the second half, he gained 41 yards on four carries.

Thigpen workload was magnified when fellow running back Honor Kim was injured early in the third quarter – allowing the Hawk defense to key solely on Thigpen. “Just trying to do my job,” the soft-spoken Thigpen said. “I set goals before a game and felt I could have done better but the most important thing is we came up with a win.”

Roberts says his star running back is an integral part of the team. “Nydrell is one of those backs that simply doesn’t go down on first contact,” the veteran coach says. “He’s always carrying two or three defenders for those extra yards.”

A starter since his freshman year, Thigpen is on pace to become the school’s all-time leading rusher. As a sophomore, he became the first Panther running back( since 2019 to rush for 1000 yards (Philip Bangura-1249) and now has 2,201 career rushing yards.

"Osceola Air Partners with Positively Osceola to Celebrate Local Student-Athletes"

**POSITIVELY OSCEOLA'S 'OSCEOLA AIR PLAYER OF THE WEEK': JADEN TAYLOR-IRONS DELIVERS WHEN IT MATTERS MOST**

In St. Cloud’s biggest rivalry win in nearly two decades, Jaden Taylor-Irons was at the center of the Bulldogs’ biggest plays, helping power St. Cloud High School past Osceola and earning honors as Positively Osceola’s Osceola Air Player of the Week.

Taylor-Irons opened the game with an electrifying 95-yard touchdown return on the opening kickoff to seize momentum and stake the Bulldogs to a 6-0 lead, sending the large home crowd into a frenzy.

With Osceola driving in the third quarter, Taylor-Irons was “Johnny on the Spot” when he recovered a fumble after a Kowboys running back dropped the ball after colliding with the back judge.

Later, with Osceola driving toward a potential go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter, Taylor-Irons made a sensational interception and returned it 45 yards to thwart the drive and flip the field.

Finally, he helped St. Cloud continue a time-consuming fourth-quarter drive when he took a pitch from quarterback Jeremiah Lattier and raced 14 yards to inside the Osceola 10. That play helped the Bulldogs kill more than five minutes off the clock and pin the Kowboys deep in their own territory to help secure the win.

For the game, Taylor-Irons rushed five times for 15 yards, registered four tackles and four assists, and recorded both an interception and a fumble recovery.

“Osceola has a very good defense and this was not a game about where we were going to pile up a lot of big stats,” St. Cloud coach Mike Short noted. “It was a game where we had to make big plays at key moments and no one made more of them than Jaden. He is absolutely deserving of Player of the Week honors.”

“We knew it was a big game but we also knew we couldn’t let the moment get too big for us and I think that happened last season,” Taylor-Irons said, referring to a game in which St. Cloud led in the third quarter before giving up 38 unanswered points in a 44-7 loss. “We kept our composure and knew what we had to do.”

The St. Cloud-Osceola series was played for the 103rd time Friday, and Taylor-Irons was not even born the last time the Bulldogs beat the Kowboys on the field in 2010. Although he appreciates the history of the achievement, he said his focus — and the team’s focus — is already on the next opponent.
