Flashing! We discovered some damage this week. After explaining to the client that this problem could be prevented with some well-placed flashing, the question was "what's flashing?" We used this video to provide a quick explanation, so maybe you'll learn something too!

With the warmer temperatures, it is a great time to get outside and inspect your home for any damage that may have occurred over the winter. You want to look for things like cracks in your foundation, caulking that has separated and can no longer seal properly, damaged or missing shingles or door thresholds that have had ice damage. You'll also want to make sure your sump pump outlet is clear of any obstructions. If your sump pump runs a lot, consider attaching a hose to get the bulk water far away from your foundation. It is also a good idea to check your grade to make sure water will run away from your foundation.
