As part of the BIA Mentorship Program, our President Scott Jones SE joined fellow industry professionals for a behind-the-scenes tour of Outdoor Dimensions, LLC’ 110,000-square-foot signage manufacturing facility in Anaheim, CA.

Hosted by Vice President Valerie Hardman, the visit offered a closer look at the operations of this second-generation family business, founded in Anaheim in 1974. Thank you to Valeria and the Outdoor Dimensions team for sharing their history, expertise, and manufacturing process with the group!

Raising Cane’s is now open just steps away from the UCLA campus! We’re proud to have provided structural engineering services for the transformation of a historic 1934 Westwood building into this college-student favorite. The renovation presented unique structural challenges as the team adapted the existing building for a modern restaurant. Congratulations to the entire project team on the opening!

Thompson Palm Springs has added another honor to its growing list of accolades, receiving a 2026 Gold Nugget Award for Best Commercial Project – Hospitality. The Gold Nugget Awards, presented by PCBC and the California Building Industry Association, recognize excellence in architecture, planning, and development.

Wright Engineers provided structural engineering services through completion of the Palm Springs hotel, working with our client and project architect, SMS Architects.

AI is making us incredibly efficient. AI attends the meeting, writes the notes, prepares the proposal, reviews it, and summarizes the results. Before long, the only ones who will actually know what’s going on will be the AIs.

Mike Thompson, PE, SE, Principal in Wright Engineers’ Colorado Springs office, recently presented “Built to Resist, Built to Last: FTAO Shear Walls Yes “U” Can” to the Structural Engineers Association of Colorado (SEAC).

The technical presentation explored the design of force transfer around openings (FTAO) shear walls and debunked FTAO misconceptions. While widely used, a common misconception persists that FTAO requires sheathing both above and below openings, potentially disqualifying walls with doors or full-height windows. Mike's presentation clarified code requirements and shared results from full-scale testing of "horseshoe-shaped" (inverted ‘U’) shear walls. This session provided engineers with the evidence needed to confidently design versatile, code-compliant FTAO systems for diverse architectural layouts.

Another multifamily project is taking shape in Mansfield, Texas!

We are honored to provide structural engineering for a new multi-family community featuring 278 apartments and 50 townhome units at The Village at South Pointe. The project includes four-story wood-on-grade apartments with tuck-under garages and a 7,500-square-foot leasing and amenity space. We are proud to support a development that will bring a mix of housing options and community-focused amenities to the area.

Another major industrial project is underway in the Dallas area. We are proud to be part of Pleasant Run, a 727,080-square-foot industrial development in Lancaster, Texas. The 47-acre project will include two buildings with a 36-foot clear height to support modern industrial and logistics operations.

We are excited to support another large-scale industrial development in one of the region’s growing distribution markets.
