Detection vs. Identification: Which is holding your battery analysis back? 🤔🔬

When analyzing battery-grade solvents like Dimethyl Carbonate (DMC), trace impurities easily hide below typical detection thresholds or co-elute entirely. Standard analytical techniques often force a compromise—high sensitivity doesn't guarantee a clear molecular ion for compound confirmation, and high-resolution tools can't identify what they can't detect.

Our new blog post breaks down a complementary approach using both GC-TOFMS (Pegasus® BTX) and High-Resolution GC-MS (Pegasus® GC-HRT). Discover how pairing these platforms delivers parts-per-billion sensitivity and accurate mass formula confirmation without compromising your workflow.

Four Decades of Innovation: Meet LECO Instrumentos S.L., serving Spain and Portugal

From our founding in 1980, LECO Instrumentos S.L. has been a story of growth, adaptation, and "inherited expertise." As we look back on over 40 years of history, we are celebrating the milestones and the people who made it possible!

A Legacy of Technical Excellence
In the mid-1980s, while much of the world was still on paper, our Iberian team was already pioneering digital service management. By using early tools like DBASE III, they ensured that our customers always had access to the most reliable support data available—a commitment to data-driven results that continues today.

Adapting to a Changing World
When the industrial landscape shifted in the 90s, our team rose to the challenge. They pivoted from coal analysis to supporting the cement and construction sectors, proving that LECO technology could provide the critical speciation data needed for ever-evolving environmental standards.

Growing With Our Customers
📍 1992: We moved into our dedicated facility in Tres Cantos, solidifying our local roots.
🎉 2008: We celebrated 25 years of service with 1,000+ successful instrument installations!
🏢 2021: We transitioned to a modernized office space in Tres Cantos to better support the high-performance needs of today’s laboratories.

The LECO Family Culture
Beyond the instruments, this subsidiary is defined by its heart. Whether it was navigating service calls during the "Tomatina" festival in Buñol (where cars end up painted in tomato red!) or building bonds while sailing the Mediterranean, our team balances professional rigor with world-class hospitality.

We are so proud to see this legacy continue as our team supports the next generation of researchers in Spain and Portugal.

We recently welcomed the AP Chemistry class from St. Joseph High School to our world headquarters for a look inside our laboratories! 🧪✨ (Swipe to see what they got up to! 📸)

The students spent the day exploring both our Technical Services Laboratory (TSL) and our metallographic lab. They got a firsthand look at how the chemistry concepts they are studying in the classroom apply directly to real-world industries—from analyzing complex organic materials to testing the structural integrity of metals.

Investing in the next generation of scientists right here in our local community is one of our favorite things to do. We loved seeing their curiosity in action as they learned about what we do every day at LECO.

Thank you for visiting, Bears! The future of science is in great hands. 🐻💻
