Don't Ignore the Signs
Is your air conditioner running longer than usual?
During extreme heat, longer run times can be normal, especially during the hottest part of the afternoon. Pay closer attention to whether your home is staying comfortable.

It can be tempting to keep adjusting the thermostat when your home feels warm, but lowering the temperature again and again won’t cool the house any faster.

Your air conditioner cools at the same pace regardless of how low you set the thermostat. Constant adjustments may simply cause the system to run longer and work harder.

Choose a comfortable temperature, leave it there, and give your AC time to do its job.

It is a little cooler this morning, but the heat wave is forecasted to continue this afternoon. That means your air conditioner will be working overtime. Give it a fighting chance by checking your furnace and AC filter today.

If the filter looks gray, dusty or clogged, replace it. A dirty filter restricts airflow, makes your system work harder and can contribute to higher energy use and premature wear.

A simple habit: Write the installation date on the edge of the new filter so you’ll know exactly how long it has been in place.
