Happy Monday ! This morning I announce something I’ve had in the works for a minute and I was just working out the kinks . I just watched my cousin bury his 14 year old son this weekend who was killed in the neighborhood I grew up in . Times have changed , I grew up in an era where when we were teens we had summer programs and summer jobs to keep us occupied . We were able to work and buy our own school clothes and take a load off our parents . Now these kids our running around lost with nothing but time on their hands . A lot of these kids are being raised in single family households with moms doing the best the can to be both a mom and a dad . This generation needs help. You can’t wear these titles of big homie and OG if you ain’t uplifting those younger than you and pouring knowledge into them. I grew up in an era where we looked up and listened to the OG’s for guidance because they had been there and done that . I’m a OG now it’s my job to pour back into my hood as I always do , but this time I’m focusing more on the Childs Park area , the neighborhood I grew up in . For the month of July I will be hiring (2) male teens ages 14- 17 for a mentorship program to work hand in hand with me . This job will be two (2) 8 hour days a week at a rate of $15 an hour . I will purchase these mentees their own drill set, and other handheld tools needed. During this month they will learn basic construction and skills that can create a side hustle for them . My mission is to show these teens that there are alternative things you can do with your hands . By the completion of the program they will have the skills to handle handyman work like hanging blinds, hanging TV’s , hanging blinds, and small drywall repairs, etc. I’m one success story from the neighborhood that beat the odds and walking proof that it can be done . This is just the beginning. I’m implementing more programs in the future , but now I feel like there is an immediate need for this . Below is the listed criteria :
* Must be a a male teen 14- 17 who lives in the Child’s Park area ( address will be verified)
* Must be in a single parent household and a teen without a father present in their life ( I don’t wanna overstep boundaries)
* Must have a desire to learn construction
* Parents must send me a short detailed message tell me why your son should be considered .
* All submissions need to be submitted by June 20th.
