Build Tips

Roof rip off Tip 1: I see many people removing roofs to prep for elevated house building in the area. Carpenters, stop using sawzalls to cut a roof off. Purchase 20 to 30 cheap skillsaw blades and run your skill saw down from the ridge to the gutter line between the trusses. No snapped lines or measuring, you can feel when you cut if you are in open space or a truss and just slice the roof. One person cuts non stop, two others use 2x4x8 as rams and pokes the cut roofing down to the floor and off the trusses. Super easy, safe, fast.

Tip 2: as the saw blade dulls down the saw will get hot. Electric tools have fans inside to cool them. Keep the saw running in the air to allow the fan to cool the saw off, many people put the saw down when it is hot to cool, you will melt the inside of the saw because the fan is not running.

Tip 3: It is easier to demo the inside first then cut the roof. It is also easier to chop the trusses and let them fall inside, walk the block wall and cut down on the end of the truss allowing the portion strapped to the wall to stay and the body of the truss to drop. You can then stand on the dropped trusses on the ground and slice them up for the dumpster.

People think Henry Ford, assembly line, do one thing completely then move to the other. Do not jump around. Efficiency is fast, safe, profitable.
