Last week, we kicked off a restoration project in Temple for a home damaged during the May 2024 tornado. We began Phase 1 by installing upgraded, energy-efficient windows.

This is the first step in a comprehensive project that includes a full interior remodel + exterior upgrades. Our team specializes in the entire build-back process, from navigating insurance claims to full scale damage restoration.

Property Maintenance Tip: Water Leak Check 💦

A small water leak can often go unnoticed for weeks, leading to higher utility bills and potential property damage. One of the most reliable ways to confirm if water is flowing when it shouldn't be is to check the water meter directly.

If you suspect an issue or simply want to perform a routine check for peace of mind, follow these simple steps:
• Ensure all water is off. Check that the dishwasher, washing machine and irrigation systems are not running. Make sure all faucets inside and outside are tightly closed.
• Locate the water meter. These are typically found in a covered box near the street or sidewalk. You may need to carefully lift a protective lid to see the meter face.
• Identify the leak indicator. Most meters have a small, rotating dial on the face specifically designed to detect low flow. As shown in the image below, this is usually a small triangle, star or gear.
• Watch for movement. If all water is turned off throughout the property, this indicator should be completely still. If it is spinning, water is actively flowing somewhere in the system.

What to do if you detect movement:
If the indicator is moving, first check for common simple issues like a running toilet or a drippy outdoor spigot. If you cannot identify the source, or if water damage is already visible, call Blackland Construction immediately to mitigate risk and prevent further issues.

Taking five minutes to check your meter can save you from major headaches down the road.

We’re praying for Kerrville and all of the Texas Hill Country + Central Texas right now. For the safety & swift recovery of those still missing, for comfort for the families who’ve lost loved ones, and for healing for all the kids whose summer camp memories will never be the same.

This is so close to our hearts. My husband, born in Kerrville, is a born and raised “HCB” Hill Country Boy. And, I grew up spending my summers on the Guadalupe at YMCA Camp Flaming Arrow in Hunt and Girl Scout Camp Mira Sol in Waring. The Hill Country shaped who we are, and it’s heartbreaking to see our friends and family hurting.
