Thames Valley WinSupply and Taco Comfort Solutions to lend a hand today with some custom built training boards. Zone valves, burner motors and thermostats on deck for our guys over at General Dynamics Electric Boat and Spicer Advanced Gas.

Smart Oil Gauge

🛑🛑 Hey! 🫵 You!! Read this Winter Oil Tank PSA!! 🛑🛑

Did you know that if you heat your home or hot water with oil and your tank gets down to a 1/4 of a tank or lower, your system can act as though you're out of oil?

Say it louder for the people in the back!

👏Your 👏 Oil 👏 Equipment 👏 Can 👏 Operate 👏 As 👏 Though 👏 You 👏 Are 👏 Out 👏 Of 👏 Oil 👏 Even 👏If 👏 Your 👏Tank 👏 Gauge 👏 Is 👏 Reading👏 A 👏 1/4 👏 Or 👏 1/8 👏 Of 👏 A 👏 Tank 👏

Check out Number 6 - The Oil Feed Lines.
Tanks are all piped and fed differently, depending on the brand/style/installation/etc., but in general, and especially older tanks we tend to see the feed line lower, like in this picture. Though if you notice, it's not exactly at the bottom of the tank..! This means, even though your oil tank gauge may be telling you that you still have a 1/4, or an 1/8 of a tank, your feed line isn't pulling anything - or it's pulling sludge. 😵
When sludge is pulled, it can clog a nozzle and/or filter, which will cause your heating system to act like there's no oil...which technically, you have, but the heating system isn't getting any of. 💥BOOM💥 now you have no heat!

If you do run out of oil, or if this scenario sounds familiar, call your oil company first - have them make a delivery, and be sure to ask them for a "Prime and Start". Not all companies/drivers will provide this service, but it's always worth asking. This will save your HVAC contractor from coming out for a service call just to tell you you're out of oil, and that they can't do anything to fix it until you have oil delivered.

How to avoid this conundrum? Keep your tank above a 1/4. (Year-round, but especially in the winter and in these cold temps we're having!).

🔥 Mark your calendar
🔥 Sign up for automatic deliveries with your oil company
🔥 Invest in a Wi-Fi gauge that monitors not just the level in your tank, but also your usage, and notifies you when you're getting low

Another (chilly..🥶) but wonderful day with the Norwich Technical High School HVAC Juniors! Today we tackled Wrightsoft Corporation load calculation software, recovered, recharged and replaced a condenser fan motor on a Fujitsu General USA Heating & Cooling DSHP, and also performed a bib kit style cleaning on a few of the indoor DSHP heads.

A big Thank You to these students and classes for bringing us a token of their appreciation! Check out this OG Honeywell programmable thermostat, circa 1920!! We had to do a little side by side comparison with the rest of our collection - how much times have changed seeing their latest thermostat next to this one!
We absolutely love it (Kyle and Greg dove right into it following training 😆🙌💪🔥)! Thank you all!!
