Just as the strongest foundations are built on solid rock, our nation was built on the strength, determination, and hard work of those who came before us.

In observance of Independence Day, we will be closed on Thursday, July 3rd, as we take time to celebrate our country's freedoms and honor the spirit that keeps America strong.

We wish everyone a safe and happy Fourth of July filled with family, friends, and appreciation for the land we call home.

This Memorial Day, we’re reminded that freedom was built on grit, strength, and rock-solid sacrifice. 🇺🇸

At Butala we move sand and gravel every day; but today we honor the men and women who were the true foundation of this country.

Wanna know some cool history of the area around our business?

Towering over Salida’s skyline, the old smokestack isn’t just a relic of the past, it’s a symbol of who we are. Built in 1917 for the Ohio and Colorado Smelter, the 365-foot brick tower was constructed with more than 1.6 million hand laid bricks, making it the tallest free standing brick smokestack west of the Mississippi River. Its purpose was to carry toxic fumes far away from the smelter, so that the Ohio and Colorado Company wouldn’t have to keep paying off local farmers for damaging their crops and livestock. Some would say it was part of the start to environmental protection. The smokestack was the heart of the company that processed ore from mines across the region, fueling Salida’s early growth and prosperity. When the company closed in 1920 due to the falling price in metal and the rising costs to make it, the smokestack stayed behind to be a proud reminder of the hardworking men and women who built this town from the ground up.
